why would anyone think that "if you like your plan/doctor you can keep your plan" applied to the super sh*tty plans that cover next to nothing? is the entire point of ACA still lost on all you insurance company lackeys?

It obviously is. Face it, America has been dumbed down so much that one really has to spell out every friggin detail of every friggin thing one wants to communicate to the people. I remember where this line first surfaced - in response to the ridiculous lies that everyone will lose their health insurance and be forced into substandard government health care where a bureaucrat makes health care decisions and where death panels switch nanas lights out.

I got to keep my plan. As did the vast majority of Americans. I get to keep my doctor. As does the vast majority of Americans. For the vast majority of Americans, the ACA didn't change a first damn thing.

sad really, the lack of personal accountability. reminds me of the time i asked my son to quickly pick up his dirty clothes from his bedroom floor before his friend arrived. later that evening i found all the dirty clothes stuffed in his closet. i asked 'why didn't you put the clothes in the hamper where they belong?' he really thought he'd outsmarted his responsibilites since i hadn't specified where to put the dirty clothes.

so stop it america, you're acting like a lazy smart aleck eleven year old.

Maybe because the words were spoken by the President of the United States and he didn't make any subtle distinction between types of plans. His statement was made to sound great as a sound byte, not to reflect the actuality of the policy.

It's too bad that people used to believe the honesty of the President and didn't realise that every statement he made needed to be parsed, interpreted and fact-checked, before it could be accepted. <_<

He screwed up/lied whatever you want to say. The plan is still better than what was in place before. What are we supposed to do? Trash the thing because something he said didn't happen the way he said it would. PRE-EXISTING conditions can not cause one to be denied and therefore 100% a burden on tax payers/policy holders. That's the REAL victory here folks.

What were we supposed to do?

What the Democrat Administration and Congress were supposed to do was enact legislation that made a real and substantive difference, removing private insurance from any connection with the basic provision of healthcare, reforming medical malpractice law to stop unfairly penalizing medical professionals and making healthcare, and not the insurance to access healthcare, affordable.

In essence, they were supposed to pass the legislation they should, rather than the sham they could. :(

The Republican's are calling the current expansion of Medicaid and regulated private market Socialism as it is. With these two ideologies hashing it out in Washington, how could we ever hope to have anything better than this hodgepodge? With these tea party folks, obstruction all all costs is the name of the game. No one cares about anything other than who looks good or bad for whatever happens. God, sometimes I think the senate/congressional/presidential terms are two short. How can we ever get to the point of people enacting/proposing laws that aren't directly related to their next election?

The Republicans have nothing to do with this mess. The watering down, selling out and general horse-trading that got us to the farce we are left with is purely a Democrat mess, as the Republicans did not have the votes in Congress to stop this, when it first reached Congress.

Yes exactly.. It kills me that the very thing that could be removed to bring healthcare costs down and could be designed out of the system was instead grown and made even more integral to the process..

Oh and on the Pelosi comment.. Not a huge fan of hers but I like the honest comment and the flair in the delivery was excellent!

i rarely ever hear a speech that goes into detail and doesn't come equipped with soundbites. i don't know why any adult would think they could take any politician's slogans or speeches at face value.

But this is one sound bite that, as it turns out, came back to bite the President.

And it appears that the majority of the electorate have a less cynical political outlook than you. Or they had. Maybe this President will prove to have been the cure for the human complaint better known as "trust". :(

all too dramatic for me. anyone who's had any experience with an insurance policy would be able to infer that some plans/doctors were going to either have to get with the program or disappear.

no, not honesty. this notion that obama has destroyed some sense of american innocence, america used to trust obama and now they're finally waking up to the sad truth. that's too dramatic..

I suspect the only thing the President has destroyed is his personal credibility. <_<
