Ok, i have searched a little bit on these forums for this answer and i cant find enough straight answers to convince me 100%, so i will ask it again here. I just sent my I-129F packet to USCIS yesterday and i am so glad to have that out of my hands for at least a little while. Fiancee lives in DR, i am a US citizen. By the way, thank you everyone who has posted their stories here on this site, and for the forms and examples here - all VERY helpful!

I know it is a long wait before she will be asked in for an interview in Santo Domingo. However, when the time comes, will I (the petitioner) be REQUIRED to go to the appointment with her? I want to know this because i tend to try to go and visit her every 3 months or so, and if i need to be there for the appointments i will make sure my last visit happens when she has the interview.

thank You

Dylan

Hi Dylan,

The short answer is YES, you need to go with her to the Interview.

The DR is a High Fraud country.. You can search the Dominican Republic Portal for more confirmation of your need to attend. As far as coordinating your travel with the interview date based upon documented timelines you will have PLENTY of advanced notification of your Interview date. Right now the DR is running at about 2-3 months from the day you find out your interview date to the actual date itself.

Relax and enjoy the journey.... You have plenty of time. :-D

Here are Timelines for the DR... so you can see for yourself. Best Wishes on your journey! God Bless you both!

~ Jan ??,2013 ~ Service Center ~ Vermont I-129F Packet sent

NOTE: Actual sent date unknown due to lawyer negligence - I delivered ALLForms and PAID Lawyer on Nov 7, 2012 - Lawyer kept saying he sent the packet and USCIS must have lost it. When in reality he failed to send the package and only a new copy to USCIS after I made a legal written demand giving him 10 days to perform or return ALL monies paid to him, due to "non-performance".

(IMO it's better to save your money for visits to or from your Fiancé and just fill it out yourself using the K-1 Guide on VJ and Senior Members... They Rock!!!)

My Pleasure!

Also for good measure MrTee12's post #68 is pretty thorough and it's DR Specific.

Yes! Si! In Santo Domingo I have never heard or known of a visa being approved without the petitioner being present for the interview. You should know by now that, unlike other consulates in the world, Santo Domingo pretty much requires petitioners to be present for the interview and they will question both of you. Actually, at my fiancée's appointment they mostly questioned me (the US petitioner) and they will certainly question you, as well. It is a high fraud country and they know it, so any discrepancies in your answers or relationship and they will ask, ask, ask. That is why you have to being to build your evidence, now! You need to prepare for what might be the most important interview of your lives and YES you need to be there!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

thanks for the replies! I am a little worried about not having enough time together/ not enough visits to convince those guys down in DR. I have a couple of red flags. First, i have only been there ONCE, and second, our relationship is very new. What i guess we do have going for us is the fact that we are both the same age. Also, i just booked a flight to go down there in january which i am sure will help at the DR interview. That is of course if the first trip evidence is enough to get me through the USCIS and NVC. I meet the minimum requirements and i packed my packet full of evidence as best i could so fingers crossed.
