Passport Agency Appointment?

Hey VJ'ers.

I just did the naturalization interview today and got an oath letter for a January 3rd, 2014 ceremony. I believe I'm going to travel out of the country shortly after the oath and would like to go to the passport office and do the expedited passport as soon as possible after I take the oath.

What I would like to know is, can I make an appointment with the passport agency before I become a citizen, but scheduled for a date after I am a citizen?

I don't know how that works. I just don't want to mess up or wait too long and then not be able to get an appointment right after the oath.

I don't know how that works. I just don't want to mess up or wait too long and then not be able to get an appointment right after the oath.

My son and I went to the passport office in Atlanta today. We did not have appointments but we were given a flyer at our naturalization ceremony that said we could go to the passport office without an appointment and without travel plans as long as we went before the 20th December, which was about 6 weeks after our ceremony. We had no trouble being seen, our passports were not urgent but a guy came in who was leaving the country the tomorrow and he was told to come back about 2 hours later and his passport would be ready. So you will not have a problem. Be sure to take one passport photo with you and staple one to the application the wording is a bit misleading. We were in and out in just under an hour.

Thank you very much nightingale! That's exactly what I needed to see. I'm going to try to go to the office right after the ceremony with the travel itinerary and see if I can get the same results as the other person. good.gif
