Hey guys...

I have a little question here.
So it looks like im going to have my interview in March. Which means, ill have to enter the US in September at the latest, right?
Now, at the moment it also looks like i am going to work on a Project here in Montreal thats gonna last until next October...

Do you guys think that it would be possible to enter the US in September, maybe move some stuff over on a weekend, then go back to Montreal for a month, to finish the project and my contract, and then definitely move to the US...

Would they take the card away from me for that?

If you enter on an immigrant visa you can enter and leave the same day if you wish. Provided you are out of the US less than six months after you initially enter as an immigrant then you shouldn't have any issue returning.

Hey

Sorry, i think you misunderstood...

This is the DV visa thread... right?

So i am wondering because i am having my DV Visa interview in march... thats my question... after the interview i have to enter the US within 6 months... (or so i thought)

but my contract here in MTL ends 7 months after the interview...

so... would it be possible to enter the US in time to not loose my Green Card, but then leave for 1 month to finish the contract before returning for good.

Hope this was now formulated clear enough.

A green card lottery visa is an immigrant visa.

The Diversity Visa is an immigrant visa. When you enter the US on an immigrant visa, the visa will be stamped by the CBP upon entry. This stamped/endorsed immigrant visa acts as your temporary proof of permanent resident status for one year after the stamp - by which time the actual green card will have arrived in the mail a long time ago.

Since the immigrant visa is stamped upon arrival, you can literally enter the US, and hop on the next flight out, regardless of whether of whether it has been a minute, day, week or a year. You re-enter simply showing your stamped/endorsed immigrant visa.
