VSC RFE Response Time

It's easy to assume that some people who got RFE's only submitted the following. It's not even questionable for anyone who gets an RFE when they only submitted these.

The question is on those that do get an RFE even after they submitted strong evidences (i.e. bank account statements, proof of cohabitation etc etc). It's easy to make a general assumption that everyone who submits strong evidences will NOT get an RFE. But that's not always true because there will be something missing in someone's package that an adjudicator will look for that the couple will deem unnecessary. What is sufficient to one adjudicator is not sufficient to another.

There are MANY reasons why anyone gets an RFE but unfortunately most that look for help regarding RFEs are those that never submitted sufficient evidence to begin with. We can't overlook the special cases.

I haven't assumed anything. Most people who get RFE's do so for a good reason. There are always those "special cases", no one is dismissing or overlooking them.

  • 2 weeks later...

So next week we will be at 60 days since submitting the RFE, any advice on putting in a service request? Any "magic" language to use? Or can a service request be submitted online? Although I'm still holding out hope that we will receive something this week! :)

Haha...I don't know about "magic" language.

This is how I approached it. I called them with the idea that I don't know what to expect (even though I kind of do after being on this forum for a while) so that they can tell me the information I need to know without me being too direct about it. However, this method may require you to sit through some of the standard information you already know.

If I were you I would be specific about the question, such that it is something a Tier 1 will never be able to answer and they will be "forced" to transfer you to a Tier 2. I made the mistake of not talking to a Tier 2 the first time and had to call again after I got a very vague response to my first service request. According to the Tier 2 I spoke to it may seem like a service request submitted by a Tier 2 carries more weight than a Tier 1.

Initially, the Tier 1 will give you a runaround about how long it should take and maybe even offer to submit a service request for you. Be firm and make sure to speak to a Tier 2.

Hope this helps!

ROC Journey:

4/24/13 - Submitted I-751 application

4/26/13 - I-751 officially filed

6/11/13 - Biometrics done

8/14/13 - Rec'd RFE

9/21/13 - Submitted RFE response

9/23/13 - RFE response rec'd at VSC

(about 2 months later)

11/21/13 - Service request via Tier 1 submitted

12/11/13 - Response to service request rec'd - vague info about processing times

12/12/13 - Service request via Tier 2 submitted

12/10/13 - APPROVED!!! (letter rec'd 12/14/13)

12/16/13 - 2nd Service request response rec'd

12/17/13 - Card production email/text rec'd (online case updated)!

12/24/13 - Notification rec'd via email regarding card mailed on 12/23/13 (online case updated as well)

12/26/13 - 10-yr card rec'd!

One thing I have learned on this journey:

There is no such thing as an "overkill" evidence package. Submit anything and everything you can. Who knows what will prevent you from getting an RFE.
