His parents failed to show him consequences for his actions or provide proper boundaries, so the justice system goes ahead and does the same thing, essentially. There is no justifying this far too lenient sentence. None. He killed four people and he won't see the inside of a jail cell for it. It's a travesty and I'm convinced that anyone who thinks this is remotely rational in terms of sentencing is trolling. They have to be.

Bingo! The parents failed to hold this kid responsible for his actions, and now the court has done the same thing.

meanwhile, back at post #1 -

so if his parents had given him the beer that night, and kept him and his buddies home and watched them all drink, and pass out, then put them all to bed without leaving the house,

then this gang of little sh|ts wouldn't be stealing beer at the Walmart in Burleson.

and no one would have been dead ...

The parents would probably be hauled into court for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Crappy parents is such a buzz word these days. Could this kid not have come to this situation with good parents? My parents were "good parents" from my perspective but I guarantee they don't know about the times when I lied to them or stretched the truth so I could cover my a$$ when drinking. BUT, due to the fear and morality my parents instilled into me, I made it through the drinking with perhaps a bit of perspective? Still, given the right circumstances and alcohol, can I say definitively that its impossible for me to have ended up in a situation like this? I'm not sure. But, would that have excused me from punishment? No. A case like this is always a shame but lady liberty must be blind to more than race and wealth.

Are you referring to my use of the term? I only mention "crappy parents" because it was a key component of the defense's case, and the windbag psychiatrist his parents could afford to have ####### out his medical credentials in a courtroom, babbling about "affluenza". I'm not impressed at all by the defense's case for his worthless parents turning this kid into a killing machine, but they sure didn't help matters. Nothing they did or did not do mitigates his responsibility for a horrific body count.

Of course he could have come to this end with great parents.

Got it :)

This posted funny the first time so I'm trying to fix it.

Same judge in this case, only with a 14 year old.

Texas teen sentenced to 10 years for deadly punch

Posted: March 15, 2012 - 10:29pm

The Associated Press

FORT WORTH A 14-year-old Fort Worth boy has been sentenced to 10 years in a juvenile jail for killing a stranger with a single unprovoked punch.

State District Judge Jean Boyd sentenced the boy Thursday. The teen, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, admitted to a manslaughter charge earlier this year following the October attack on 40-year-old Mark Gregory.

A statement from the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office says the boy and two friends hopped out of a car that night when they saw Gregory walking. The punch knocked the 106-pound Gregory down and he hit his head on the pavement. He died two days later.

And yet a 13 year old boy gets three years in a secure juvenile facility for accidentally killing his sister when he was using wrestling moves on her.

Guess money didn't talk in this one.

It is, in comparison to what he should be getting for KILLING FOUR PEOPLE.

That's what constitutes manslaughter, unlawful killing. People are often given light sentencing for manslaughter. The judge takes into account all the extant information before he sentences. It's normal. I have yet to see a coherent argument as to why this sentence is unjust . I have seen a lot of hyperbole about killing people but then that's to be expected with the scant information that was made available by the sensational reporting.

What? What part is "sensational" in the reporting of the story?

Since when is it normal for a drunk driver to get off with probation when he caused an accident that killed multiple people?

Cool. When someone disagrees with you, you just call their argument incoherent and move on. I think I'm going to start doing that. It's like when a 4 year old doesn't want to listen, they stick their fingers in their ears and scream. I suppose everything is incoherent when you do that.

The defense was not affluence. Start there and work forwards with all the actual factual information that was provided against the picture that was presented. Four people died, it's tragic but throwing a 16 year old in jail and throwing away the key isn't going to somehow make this situation any better. if there is any injustice here, then fine, present it but as things stand no evidence has been presented that shows that to be true just a 'feeling' that someone 'should' get jail time if they are driving a car that kills four people while under the influence of alcohol.
