What you - and Rafael - fail to get is that honoring Mandela, which is what was supposed to happen yesterday, would require listening to and respecting one's adversaries, not walking out on them. Walking out on them was disrespectful to the memory of Mandela. Rafael could have disrespected Mandela from his home in Texas or his office in DC. It does not take his traveling on the taxpayer's dime to South Africa to disrespect Mandela. That was sheer stupidity. But since he plays solely to the stupid, it was a politically brilliant move.

Got to agree. A memorial service is no place to make political statements. Cruz seems to step in it at every turn.

Ted Cruz has no business representing the US on anything. He should have stayed home.

I disagree. He is one of the two senators from one of the largest and most prosperous states in the country. He matters, as much as I wish he did not.

Still, his disrespect for the memory of Mandela is not representative or indicative of American values. If he does not know how to behave in public he should have stayed home. He was there as a representative of our country as a whole, not only of the state in which he was elected.

His base is going to love this.

He's not stepping in it, he's performing for 'his people'.

Absolutely. Look at lib. The other loons will love it just as much.

Every loon has followers.

He should have done what Sarah Palin did - fly to some place other than South Africa for Mandela's Memorial.

Sarah Palin Arrives in South Korea for Mandela Memorial

Dec 10, 2013
Sarah Palin disembarked from a plane in Seoul, South Korea today expecting to attend the memorial service for Nelson Mandela.

According to local reports the former Alaskan governor and Republican Vice-Presidential candidate arrived on Asiana flight 459 from Anchorage at 6:30 am local time and took nearly a half-hour to realize that she had flown to the wrong country.
