Firstly it takes 2-3 weeks for petitions to transit from CSC to NVC, CSC only sends them every week or so. So calling them will result in them telling you that they don't have the case yet.

Also if you do email them, they can take up to 5 working days to reply.

[Qoute]An automated recorded message system can answer many of these inquiries 24 hours a day, seven days a week (603 334-0700). Operators are available to respond to more difficult inquiries from 7:30 AM to 12:30 AM (EST) Monday through Friday. Status of case information and access to an operator can only be provided by entering your NVC case number or CIS receipt number on a touch-tone telephone. Case inquiries can also be made via email at NVCINQUIRY@state.gov. NVC only has information on petitions it has received. If our automated service does not recognize the CIS file or receipt numbers you entered, most likely we have not yet received your petition. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...types_1309.html

If you do call them you need to get a live operator, the automated system usually will not have information for K-visas

You will need to provide Petitioner, and Beneficiary's names, and DOB, and USCIS case number

It takes NVC a few days to respond to e-mails - sometimes almost a week. The key is patience (I know it's hard, we already waited forever for the NOA2).

I also had problems getting in contact with a live person - until I called at 11:55 p.m.

Try that and good luck.

The NVC phone queue seems to build up to a certain size, then all calls after that seem to be told to call back later. Once the queue goes down they'll put you on hold and tell you how many minutes you can expect to wait. My experience was that when I called after normal business hours, Eastern Time, I got people who didn't know much about the process but would check to see if they had a record of my case. When I called at 7:30AM I got a lady that seemed to know a bit about it and more helpful. She said normally they get the petitions after 4 - 6 weeks of approval of NOA2, and can be up to 90 days.

By the way Stinger, the USCIS field office person indicated that petitions go through the NVC, even though the NOA2 said, "listed consulate" and the consulate that it goes to is normally the closest to where your fiancee' lives, but the consulate has the right not to process it, and in that case I guess it can go to a different consulate. I asked him where my petition is now, after my lead in the way I stated my question, he said, "in background check".

NOA1 - 12/21/15

NOA2 - 04/18/16

NVC Receive - 04/29/16

NVC Welcome - 05/13/16

DS-261 - 05/14/16

AOS, IV PAID - 05/27/16

DS260 done - 06/10/16

Case Transferred to US Embassy in Riga Latvia at the end of October.

If you really want it, you'll find a way!
