I-134, Affidavit of Support

My fiance and I were recently approved (NOA 2) and expecting everything to be sent to the NVC soon. I am concerned about my Affidavit of Support. My tax records show that I earned $19,841. I am divorced with one child and my daughter stays with me 2 nights a week. I have recently obtained a second job (2 months ago) and currently working at 2 places. Is this going to be enough money recorded for last year to qualify to bring my fiance here or should I start looking for a co sponsor? I also have a million other questions but thought I would start with this one first! Thanks in advance.

Hi! We had a similar problem. No children involved but a concern that my fiancées income would not make the cut. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but in order to sponsor by yourself, you will need to meet the requirement of a household of three. (Yourself, your fiancé and your child) this figure has to be 125% of the poverty level so currently! for a household of three you need income of $24,412. And this should be able to be supported with evidence. So if your second job is cash in hand or whatever, i would imagine it wouldn't work.

Do you have any assets? Car (that you own) house/mortgage etc?

This was my thread a while back. Have a read through everything and see if it helps. For the I-134 at least, your fiancé may be able to self sponsor depending on which embassy he is going to. Buys you some more time to get paid more/another job/find a co sponsor.

I have a second job and it is a restaurant job. I am paid in tips but I do get a pay stub that shows how much I make. I have a large collection of autographs that have a lot of value and yes I own a car. I don't know what to do.

Find out what your car value is on Kelly blue book. Check the guidelines on declaring asserts. I feel like I've seen that they only count for 20% extra though. The car could tip you over the threshold so you could do it yourself, providing you own it and aren't still making payments on it, as technically then you don't own it yet, the bank does.

- Re. The autographs, I'm not sure how you could get them valued and if they would even count given that they have more of a subjective value. As in, they are only worth what someone who really wanted them would pay (not that you have to sell them lol)

- Your job at the restaurant, how much do your pay stubs state that you make? I you added that up month to month, annually, would it take you above that $24K+ mark?

Realistically, if you can get a letter from your employers (which you need to anyway) that say you make X amount per month which equates to X amount per year, then add those two figures together. If they go above the threshold then you should be ok. Since you can't declare last years tax from a job that you didn't have last year, the letter from your employer will be the overriding factor. If they can say you make X amount, (make sure this includes tips) then that will be enough. If they just say your hourly rate and hours per week though, then it might not be enough. If you get on well with them though, they might just state on your letter your hourly rate AND average tips included in the same figure. Technically they wouldn't be lying!

All in all though, I would definitely advise you look for a co-sponsor who will join you and fill all the forms and get the evidence, just in case! Then you can give it all to your fiancé and he can take all your I-134 stuff, if they say it's not enough then he can give them the co-sponsor I-134 and evidence too. If it is enough, then you won't need to use the co-sponsor. Better to just be safe if someone will co-sponsor.

You need a co-sponsor. But you will still have to fill out an I-134 and gather the supporting documents: bank statements for the last six months (dated and with the current balance), An employer letter, and tax transcripts. I hope you find a co-sponsor!
