Hi VJ,

Could not find it in the Guides section. For K1, what is the process of getting a SS#? I assume I visit the SS office after getting married and apply.

Yes, you go to your local SS office and fill out the paperwork (we got the papers you need to fill out at the courthouse after we got married). Most likely you'll have to make two trips. They issue the card in the maiden name first and then once you have received that card you go back with your marriage cert and order a new card with the married name on it. Hope this helps.

Nov 18, 2013: NOA1

Dec 20, 2013: Biometrics appointment

Jan 17, 2014: EAD card production

Jan 23, 2014: EAD combo card received

March 15, 2014: Received Potential interview waiver case letter

June 26, 2014: AOS approved, no interview!

You can do it before you get married. There has to be about 2 weeks of validity left on your I-94 or they'll turn you away. So...really anytime between 2 weeks after POE and 2 weeks before the I-94 expires is fine!

For women, annerobin12 is correct....they need to get the SS card in their maiden name and then go back once they have their EAD or green card and have the card updated to their married last name.

K1 Visa Process AOS Process

Mar 18 2013: I-129F mailed to CSC Nov 15 2013: I-485 with EAD/AP filed at Chicago Lockbox

Sept 19 2013: Interview - Approved!! Jan 25 2014: EAD/AP Card Received

Oct 6 2013: POE - Chicago O'Hare June 2 2014: Permanent Resident Card Received!

Oct 27 2013: Wedding!

Hi Travelpro. It's in the guides. From here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

You'll see, "Obtaining a Social Security Number (SSN)". shortcut: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

From here, you should be able to see the links for (1) the SS-5 form that your fiancee needs to fill-up, (2) the Electronic I-94 retrieval and (3.) how to find your SSA office.

As suggested above your fiancee can visit the SSA office and apply for a SSN before marriage. Hope this helps. Good luck! :)
