Police fingerprint/name check in Sydney

Hi all,

I've been trying to get my name/fingerprint check done but have been told different things! Basically, I have my NOA2, am waiting for my case number. I was going to get my police check done (name and fingerprint, $175) to speed things up and be ready for when I receive my Packet 3.

I went into the police station to have the check done and was asked for a pre-stamped, addressed envelope to the US Consulate where they will send the prints to. But I read on the forum here somewhere that the check/certificate gets sent to you, to take along to the visa interview (especially important if you do not have a case number assigned yet -- the US consulate won't knwo what to do with the police certificate otherwise!)

Anyone know if it should get sent to my home address, or directly to consulate? And how would I go about getting an envelope prepared (directed to who at the US Consulae, how much in stamps etc) if it has to be sent directly to consulate..and is it not good to do this before they have received it/I have received Packet 3?

Much appreciated!

hi

my husband and I jumped the gun a bit and had the police check done already, you get a certificate not a copy of your fingerprints, and it should come straight to you. The paperwork has a water mark etc...and I would imagine is the document that you will need to take in hand. oh, wait, did you have it done in usa or Australia??

hope this helps

Thanks for your reply! I am in Australia (Sydney) so am talking about NSW police. Yes I thought that it should come straight back to me but I've been in to two police stations to get the fingerprints/name check done and they've asked me for a pre-stamped envelope addressed to the US Consulate Sydney. When I said that as I do not have a case number yet, the consulate wouldn't know what to do with the certificates when they received it..they just said I shouldn't get the certificates and it needs to go to who needs it (US Consulate). Argh so frustrating, everyone gets told different things!

your welcome!, I think I read on here somewhere that certain states it gets mailed straight to the consulate and other states it goes to you

interesting that the cost varies from state to state too, ours was $120 all up
