What happens with the medical is you get the medical close to when your K-1 interview will be, but well enough in advance that the Doctor can send you back the results or send the results to the Consulate depending on the Consulate. Once you are approved for the K-1 the visa expires 6 months after the medical. Once you enter the states as long as you do the AOS within one year the medical done for the Consulate interview is still valid to provide as proof of a medical for your AOS.

for Guangzhou, it's 1 year.

However, the visa duration is tied to the medical exam date, so plan accordingly.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Each Embassy in different parts of the world has different times as established by CDC that the TB tests are good for which affects medical exam expiration dates. Our AP was 6 months long, so they made us get another. The first was done in March and the second in September. They said that the exam had to have 6 months left on it at the time the visa was issued. So, my fiancee had to pay to fly from Chengdu to Guangzhou for a 3rd time to get a repeat exam, then she dropped off the paperwork while she was there & the 4th "final approval" notice was issued about 3 weeks later. This time - no "blue slip" was issued afterward.
