Post-Visa Trying to Get her Resident Status and see what's Next

So...we just got the K1 Visa last month. We now have 5 months to get married. We will just be doing the City Hall approach here in New York City (for now). How does one usually go about getting her residence after this? How long will it take her to get residence? How soon can she return to Japan for a visit? She has this weird notion that she has to live in the USA for a certain amount of time, before she's ever allowed to visit the US again. The time period between getting married and before getting a green card, is she allowed to work during this time?

She has 2 Japanese friends that are married to American men, but the friends gave her conflicting info. on these topics. Please help lead us in the right direction.

From when she enters the US, you have 90 days to marry...not sure where the 5 months comes in

She cannot leave the US until she has her green card or her Advanced Parole travel document. The travel document takes about 3 months from the time you file AOS.

Once you enter on a K-1 visa, you have 90 days to marry. When you get your certified marriage certificate back from the court, then file for AOS. After filing for AOS, it should be about 60 days before she receives her EAD/AP travel card.

It's pretty simple math and you need to file up the correct forms all included in the price.

Entry to USA + time it takes to get married + time it takes to get certificate + time it takes to file the Adjustment of status + 60 days is about the next time she visit Japan or any other country for that manner. That includes going on an overseas honeymoon. It's not allowed and will invalidate you AOS application. You'll need to start over at the beginning with a CR-1 visa application.
