The wealthy could soon choose to spend their entire lives circumnavigating the world on a vast floating city, if the vision of a Florida-based firm becomes reality.

The $10 billion Freedom Ship would offer 40,000 residents a permanent ocean-going home complete with hospitals, schools, shops, parks and even a small airport.

At 25 storeys high and a mile long - four times longer than the Queen Mary II - the 2.7 million-tonne vessel would be so large that it could never enter a port. Instead, it would circle the globe once every two years, anchoring offshore major cities to allow its residents to enjoy some of the worlds top destinations - or shake off any seasickness.

This reminds me of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." Scientists predict that the planet is doomed and determine that three spaceships should be built to evacuate everyone. There is a spaceship for the thinkers, a spaceship for the doers, and a spaceship for the middlemen. After the spaceship for the middlemen takes off, the scientists reveal that they may have been mistaken and the planet is probably not doomed. Unfortunately, there is no way to call back the spaceship that has already launched.

I don't recall that being in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I suppose I could have missed it. You sure it wasn't in one of the other books or was it an obscure reference?

Oh relax. Its in jest. I personally don't want anyone to die because of their political affiliation. I doubt others here do either. If they want to board a boat and sail the world, well I'm cool with that. If they don't, that's cool too.
