Hi, everyone.!. Can anybody here help me understand about this $165 USCIS Immigrant fee payment? Do I need to pay it before entering US or after ? Since I read one post here most said "NO" it confused me 'cos this is what I read on the "uscis.gov" site

USCIS Immigrant Fee

"Foreign nationals who seek permanent residence in the United States and receive an immigrant visa from the Department of State need to pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee online before departing for the United States."

Thank you in advance for your time reading my message .:-)

Yes , you still will need to pay USCIS immigration fee before departs for the U.S. and that will mail permanent resident card ( Green Card) out to you where u will current live at in the U.S.

I think they are K-1, not IR-1/CR-1, since this is the K-1 forum. If K-1, that's a no to the immigration fee, and no automatic green card.

OP, what visa are you applying for?

ya, you might have gotten a generic 'whats next' letter from the consulate IV Unit attached to the outside of the 'do not open' visa packet.

That doesn't apply to K-1 visa holders, so you can disregard that in it's entirety.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

TImeline states they filed an I-129F and had a K-1 visa interview. K-1 entrants do not pay the immigrant fee.

~ Moved from K-1 Progress Reports to K-1 Process and Procedures - topic fits better there as this is not really a case status post -

Who re IR-1/CR-1 still need to pay for USCIS immigration fee and K-1 no immigrate fee and I am in I601 waiver and I knew that I will have to pay for USCIS immigration fee before depart for the U.S.

I was referring to the original poster who was asking whether they need to pay the immigrant visa fee, not to you. Since they have a K-1 visa, they do not have to pay. Since you are applying for an IR-1/CR-1, you will need to pay.
