Looking online at the US gov website for the B1/B2 visa application for my g/f (she's Ukrainian), I don't see an approximate time line. As a rule of thumb, how many months are we talking from applying to decision and then if approved, issuance?

Thanks

Hi,

I believe there's no specific timelines for B1/B2 visa. the sooner you apply and compile the requirements the sooner you can booked your schedule for interview. Once you're approved, they'll inform you when you will get your visa. Here in my country of residence, I got mine 2 days after approval.

Hope this helps your query.

That's very interesting, thank you. Do you know if it works in her interest to say she's got an American b/f or just saying she's coming for tourism? Also, what about where she stays, would we need to book her a hotel here even though she'd be staying with me in my house?

Thanks

Hi,

If your GF is going there to US, the main objective of visiting there should be "for tour and fun". Never mentioned that your GF is visiting you but you can put your address there if she is planning to stay with you otherwise as you mentioned, she must booked a hotel after approval not before. The CO (Consul Officer) will ask her "what is the purpose of her visit" she should answer "for tour and fun" and then maybe the CO would ask also did you already made bookings hotel, flight & etc. she can answer not yet but as soon as i get the visa. Here you did not lie but instead you served the purposed of B1/B2 concept if you know what i mean.

Hope this helps.

Hi Again,

One more thing, remember the CO always looks at the strong ties of your GF to her home country meaning there should be a proof that she's going back to where she came from after the tour in US. Strong ties could be her stable good job, business (if have), bank accounts, assets and etc.

That's very helpful thank you. Her job is relatively new, but she works many hours and seems close to a promotion. She shares a rented (I believe) apartment with her sister. No car. But she has traveled twice to Europe and once to Thailand and returned as scheduled. She's also 38, which isn't "young" (in my eyes), perhaps that means nothing, I'm hoping it will be in her favor.

Hi again,

don't forget to bring all those back up you mentioned, the CO might asked or maybe not but atleast she's prepared. Don't worry about the age, age doesn't matter in B1/B2 visa. What matters is her capacity to travel in the US.

A good CO will ask why she chose city 'X' to visit...and/or who she knows there...her answers and the timing of those answers will be crucial to the success of her request. She may even be asked.."do you have an American bf?"....what is she going to answer? Another thought: the more somebody tries to avoid telling the entire truth, the more obvious it will be to a seasoned CO that she is trying to do exactly that...and when this is discovered, that will be the end of the interview...if she tries to backpedal, or stammers, or gives sterile, generic answers to follow up questions, a denial will fast approaching and notes made in her file that she was not telling the truth...guess what that would mean for future B2 applications?

I agree completely. Having an American girl/boyfriend is not a reason for visa denial -- you can tell from posts on this forum, visas are issued all the time to people with this connection. What often causes denials seem to be any kind of attempt -- even if someone advises you to do so. Unless your girlfriend is a very good actress (or a good liar), she's going to seem to be hiding something. If asked why she wants a visa for the US, a simple "going to visit a friend" will come off much more honest/sincere than saying she's going for touring and fun. And, if there are follow-up questions (i.e., girl vs boy friend?, going to stay with him/her?), those, too, should be answered completely and -- more importantly -- honestly. The visa may not be approved -- but, if not, it likely wouldn't have been approved if there was an attempt to cover up the existence of a boyfriend anyway, since it's highly likely that -- given the description of ties to the home country (relatively new job, renting, limited prior travel, etc.).

Hi,

I have a question for you. Did you experienced applying for a B1/B2 visa in your life and telling the CO that your visiting your GF/BF, if so and you got a visa approval upon this, then I totally agree with you. If not then tell me again. The one I shared is based on my own experienced not others thought or opinion here in VJ. I hope your not saying your opinion. Here in VJ I'm sharing my actual experienced not thoughts not maybe and not opinion.
