I have NEVER EVER ridiculed or demonized the Jewish people. I have never posted cartoons mocking them. I have never posted racist remarks attributing certain traits or behavior to them. I don't mock their culture or their religion.

I DO have a problem with the illegal policies of the Israeli government, and I WILL criticize those until they change. And I am joined and supported in this criticism by many Jews, as well as many Israelis, along with millions of other people in this world.

Israel is hardly "defenseless;" they have what is considered the 4th best-equipped military in the world (thanks to the American taxpayer) and they are the ONLY country in the Middle East with nuclear weapons (which they refuse to even "officially" acknowledge, despite it being the worst-kept secret in the world.)

According to U.S. law, we MUST suspend military aid to Israel, as it's using that aid in flagrant violation of the U.S. Arms Export Control Act, the Foreign Assistance Act AND the Geneva Conventions, wantonly killing civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure.

And I certainly DO have a problem with Israel's AIPAC, a foreign country's lobby (one of the most powerful in Washington, right up there with the NRA) having overwhelming influence over American foreign policy, military assistance and foreign aid, actually skewing that policy entirely for the benefit of that foreign country -- even to the point of setting aside or directly opposing American national security and American interests, and even to the point of conducting espionage operations targeting our own government -- and then trying to smear any criticism of its activities as "anti-semitic."

I think this bus campaign is a great quirky little idea. Quite a lot of Americans know next to nothing about Arabic and expect that every Muslim secretly has Osama bin Laden's phone number in his cell. You know, so when al-Qaeda plans something, they can call and say 'Osama, your mother would NOT like this jihad you've got going on and she wants to know if you're coming home for your father's birthday.' Just like I have all the phone numbers of the molesting priests. ('Father Mulcahy, no!')

I'm not sure how successful it will be, but for every person who goes OMG OSAMA IS POSTING SECRET MESSAGES IN THAT WEIRD LOOPY LANGUAGE and learns it means 'I'm a little teapot' will at least have to think a little.

Internment has been discussed by rightwing radical groups for all Muslims, so the comparison with Japanese-Americans is apt. Especially given the detentions which generally seem to result in being held for three or four years and released with no charges.

I have written "Rachid and Sarah" in arabic on a paper that I hang by my desk.... I have never heard anything bad from it ... but people will ask "what does that say" then they want me to write there name..... but I only know how to write Rachid and Sarah....

I have a glitter painting a college friend of mine did as a graduation present for me on my desk at work, like this (says peace and love)

And I've gotten quite a few compliments on it as well.

My mom is an elementary school teacher and she used to do a language of the week. When my arabic was better, I did arabic presentations for her class and wrote all the kids' names in arabic. She has her name written in several different languages on her desk. Her kids love it
