I miss everything, pubs, food, proper beer, spelling, accent, even Christmas which I dislike is absent here, we believe the customer service here is great until you have to deal with Comcast and the extortionate prices they charge, I would much rather pay the licence fee than what we pay here and of course the NHS, here its $500 a month then co pay (whatever that is) plus deductibles plus doctor visit fees plus any prescriptions. If it were not for my wife I would definately stay in the UK.

This week I am missing a decent choice of Christmas crackers in the shops, chipolata sausages, After Eights, pots of goose fat in the supermarket, Boots Christmas 2for1 deals, Tescos, a local pub Christmas meal with friends...

loving reading this

have Irish, Aussie, and USA citizenship

ahh, the boxing day holiday, the sales, the heat (if down under), the mince pies marked down LOL

I think the cool thing about moving to USA, is that there are heaps of ex pats, and heaps of web sites that do speciality foods and such

we love having a go with my family in usa that one in particular thinks an aussie accent sounds like a pom

I can laugh as originally I could not hear the difference between kiwi and aussie accent LOL

Canada does Boxing day so thinking maybe you could spend a Christmas there and be in pure joy with Boxing day

I think the things you will miss only endear that place to your heart all the more

great reading on a Christmas eve, I hope to get some decent Christmas crackers with the BOXING day sale!!, I heard of someone stateside that made them with old toilet paper rolls and they came out really nice, what a ripper of an idea LOL

My main concern (as sad as this sounds) was squash...I just think there's something weird about using powder to make a drink!

That was one of mine too. I used to drink pints of the stuff. I hardly ever drink hot drinks, much to the dismay of the in laws who assumed I would live on cups of tea LOL. There is however an answer. MIO. Comes in little bottles. 2 or 3 squirts and your good to go. The first time you have it, you'll be like this ain't squash. It'll only take a couple of glasses to become acclimatized though. I'm now addicted to the stuff. Just don't look at the ingredients though, at least one has been banned by the EU LOL

I was just thinking yesterday how grateful I am every year I've been back here that I never have to hear Cliff Richard's "Mistletoe and Wine" at Christmas. Anywhere. In fact almost no one has any idea who he is and I am 100% okay with that.

that's hilarious

Although things I hated in England I started to appreciate when I moved over there last time, probably due to homesickness. One example being eastenders, the acting makes me wana claw my eyes out but seeing it on American tv I'm like ooo Yey eastenders

EastEnders was my one bad TV thing I allowed myself and I'd been watching it since I moved (mostly because it was a nice bit of "normality" to have around). Right up until they put Danny Dyer in it. I've been cured! No more EE for me.

My ex and I spent some time over the holidays perusing the 1976 and 1986 Argos catalogues which are now available online. Yes, some weirdo scanned the entirety of two Argos catalogues. It was strangely comforting to behold Elizabeth David jewellery in all its splendour.

One thing I won't miss on New Year's Eve is my favourite non-spirit alcoholic indulgence. The local supermarket carries imported Strongbow Cider! Yay, me! kicking.gif

Strongbow is NOT cider. I was so upset that the only British cider that the liquor store near my wife's house carries is Strongbow. Need some proper westcountry stuff!

It's better than the local carp ... and somehow, I don't think they'd import Great Weston Revival here. ;)

So, I'll just have to make do.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
