Nowhere!

For a start, the World Cup involves playing football. You know, the sport played mainly with the feet.

Then there are all the other countries that play the sport, and watch it, too, which is just a few more than play the "other" kind.

Then there's the continuity, the flow of the game, rather than the 5 seconds of action, followed by a 45 second drinks break, rinse and repeat.

So yes, it's not even close. You could say it's not even in the same ballpark.

Running back and forth across the field for 90 minutes, play acting pretending like they got hurt if someone breathes on them, fall down clutching leg with look of agony on face in an attempt to draw a card, then get up a few seconds later and run around like nothing happened, kick ball back and forth aimlessly and maybe both teams score a total of 5 goals. Now that's exciting. devil.gif

Or watch Brady, Manning, Brees etc throw for 400+ yds, put 35+ points on the board, bone crushing, hard hitting action, guys playing with broken hands, fingers and beaten to a frazzle, running backs charging through a line of 300 lb monsters getting tackled and hit hard enough to knock a normal person into the next zip code, receivers getting cut in half going over the middle, brutal defenses like Seattle, Carolina etc, real men going mano y mano, helmet to helmet trying to kill each other on every play.

If what you say is true then why is MLS growing so much, the MLS has been around for 20 years and already its probably more popular than NHL, and also why has the NFL not taken off elsewhere, NFL Europe failed. Anyways the world cup is a great even the largest sporting event in the world and a great experience. I would implore all VJers to watch.

Looks like the US got a pretty tough group with Portugal, Germany, and Ghana. Perhaps the toughest, although the group with Italy, England, and Uruguay isn't exactly a group I'd want to be in either.

I enjoy both sports, although I do agree that the diving is something not to be proud of.

Would be their first time since 1950.

Soccer is the only sport where the players run constantly and is still like watching paint dry. Lots of action that leads to nothing. whistling.gif

Which is why a score in soccer is more exhiliarating than any other sport.

Hey, at least they made it to the Finals!

I remember them missing out on a trip to the Big Show altogether ... more than once. :(
