Pauls a monkey hanger - hartlepool is REALLY close to newcastle. Does marrying someone from the area excuse your excessive drinking? Oops, just spilt booze on the keys...

Hahhaha ! Hi Joey ! Good to see you. You married a monkey hanger and I married a sheep shagger !

Doesn't say much for me ! Hhahahha ! :lol::lol::lol:

Or me! I'm happy - hope you are  Shall we get tshirts that say 'monkey hangers and sheep shaggers make better lovers?"

As for reaction - Other than my brother and sister calling me Madonna after I moved over there for six months (though unlike her I didn't somehow develop a British accent) they've all been great. I think the only comment was - you even make falling in love complicated :D

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

Only one brother and sister thought it was great when I told them about my Dan. The rest of the clan just thought it was a crush, infatuation maybe. He and I were friends first and when we were getting very close, I made the first move and planned my trip. I got a very bad reaction from my dad who thought I was crazy about going. Two sisters tried stopping me from going thinking I don't know what I was doing. My mum went either way. She was happy I found someone but unsure about me going. The ones who were supportive convinced my parents that I must have this experience. And if my baby turned out to be a jerk, I could always get a ticket home. Ever since I met my baby online, I got to know the man, find out what he looks like, talk to him by phone and im. I was convinced that he was a good man unlike some ### I knew before my prince. My parents did not wish me to be a prisoner in texas forever. I was old enough and wise to know the dangers. I went despite a sister getting angry about why they didn't stop me. It felt very good proving to the doubters that he was a good man and who is here to stay.

My family was very aprehensive about Jonny (UK Citizen), only because I am getting divorced from the Romanian.

When I told them about Anton they mostly took it as if I said I was going to dye my hair blue (something I had done before). They all said, 'Oh, Ok' and when he immigrated here everyone welcomed him, no matter how freaking rude he was to them.

When I went to meet Jonny in person, I only told 2 people what I was up to. When I came back and knew I loved Jonny I told everyone about him. Things were getting alot more serious as the year passed and in November he came here to visit. My family was still a little huffy about it (especially my mom) but once they all met him they loved him to bits. So when I announced our engagement, everyone was delighted!

Be honest and upfront as soon as possible. have plenty of visits both ways this way both families are involved.

LisaD's story about the placenta eating in the UK reminds me of the strange warning I got before I went to England. "Vikki, you know they aren't circumcised overthere... " ummm yeaaaahhhh..... Most Romanians aren't either....

on another note... seriously, why is there no spellcheck? is it hidden?

Yeah I agree. My parents talked to him by phone when I was over there and when he came to texas, they were very nervous but they liked him. He gets along well with my brother and sister who supported me. My parents love him dearly now and I was very touched when my dad gave him a gold watch for christmas. They want him back here as soon as possible.

Speaking of the UK. I used to love to watch Cell Block H on TV (in Canada), when I was about 11 or 12. I'd have to sneak out of bed and watch it (it was on right after Benny Hill @ 11:30). I wonder whatever happened to Sharon.

Well I don't mind Rush (what I've heard, which isn't much... he emailed me 2112 as MP3s a while back, and I did quite like that, I suppose...) - but 'not minding' them is apparently not sufficiently reverent!

Ahh, thank you - maybe Tracy can show me the error of my ways and help me see what it is I've been missing about Rush all this time. Could save us a whole fortune in marriage guidance counselling in the future (I'm just imagining.... "but I told you, I don't have anything against Rush!"... "SEE?! See what I have to put up with??")

Ok, now I'm babbling - must stop posting at gone 5 in the morning!

(edited to add... oh, and I will actually answer the topic of the thread at some point, but... later! Not that my answer is that riveting, but still - only polite to respond to the question as well as the off-topic Rush stuff, I suppose!)

My mom & dad knew Craig and I were talking after a while, but didn't think *too* much of it really. When I said he was going to come over for a visit in a couple of months, that's when they sat up and took notice a bit more. One of the first things out of my mom's mouth was "where's he going to stay while he's here??"   (did I mention they are *very* old-fashioned???) I told her "with me, of course" and I just got "ohhhhhhhh" back. Anyway....after he was here for nearly 3 months (86days) that summer, they loved him and they still do of course! I got to go over to England to meet his parents (who I had spoken to on the phone many times in great length before Craig even visited) for two weeks a couple of months later...it was great! I feel sorry for everyone who has to deal with family not being supportive aside from all of this other immigration hooey! :( M.

My parents were fine with me coming over to meet hubby, my sister was convinced he was a mad axe murderer. I promised to call her the minute I got here, called and said "Hi, it's me, I'm here and he's not an axe murderer" she responded "How do I know he doesn't have a gun to your head right now"!

Needless to say things are great now, they all love him and he even got a christmas card from my nephews calling him Uncle David, which he was over the moon with. Awwwww

10 year Green Card received, Next step is citizenship urgh!

I am more than happy to help anyone get into Rush! :D And ladies lemme tell ya - WOMEN who like Rush are rarities (though not as much now as it used to be). I've had blokes at Rush concerts staring at me with their mouths dropped open as I sang and rocked along. I had two guys fight after one of them bumped into my female friend while we watched the gig from the second row. They let you cut in concession lines in front of them, they escort you to their (sometimes) closer seats - its great!

My fiance is the ultimate male Rush fan though because he is all these things and then some. (L)(F)
