Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been properly answered elsewhere in the forum, I'm new and having a difficult time navigating all the information. Thanks for your patience and assistance. So far, it's been wonderful to read everyone's experiences and tips, much appreciated to all those sharing their journey.

I'm hoping I could hear back from people who have already completed their interview in Vancouver, Canada to let me know if you were required to have fingerprints with their police certificate.

I'm hearing/seeing a lot of back and forth about only needing fingerprints if you do have a criminal history (which I don't have), but the RCMP officer at the commisionnaires office said he thinks I'd be denied if I don't have the police check that includes fingerprints.

Hopefully those who have been through this recently, can shed some more light on this topic.

Thanks!

The finger prints are only needed if you have a record, or if you have no record because of a pardon or discharge. Otherwise you just need the full name search Canada wide.

If you haven't found the Canada forum you should check it out, at the top is a guide for Vancouver. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/93-canada/

Both Ontarkie and ricnally are right.

As it says on the Vancouver Packet 3:

"POLICE CERTIFICATES: Please obtain police certificates from the police authorities of each country where you have

resided for 6 months or more since attaining the age of 16. A police certificate must also be obtained from the police
authorities of any place where you have been arrested for any reason, regardless of the length of residence. Residents of
Canada may obtain a certificate of no conviction issued by any Canadian police service so long as it notes that Canadian
Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using your name and date
of birth. You should ensure that the search includes all names you have previously used, including maiden names, prior
married names, or names used before Canadian naturalization. If a namecheck by a police agency reveals a conviction
record, that agency may refer you to the RCMP for a "Certified Criminal Record Check", which lists your criminal history,
indicating the section of the Canadian Criminal Code under which you were charged, the disposition of the case, and the
penalty imposed (if any). Obtaining a Certified Criminal Records Check requires submission of fingerprints. For obtaining
police certificates from around the world, please visit http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_3272.html .
** It is NOT necessary to obtain police certificates from the United States."
According to someone at Commissionaires BC, they charge $42 for CPIC which should be back within 24-48 hours.
Hope this helps.
