Sorry if this has been asked already but I can't get through the phone lines and the canada gov't website-I can't find any link relevant. I need to let the gov't know I'm no longer a resident. I'm under the impression I do this in writing. Does anyone know what I need to write up? Where to mail it?

Thanks for the help

Actually you do not have to do anything--What one should do on your last Cdn income tax you filed--on the very front it states the date you became OR ceased to be a Cdn resident, just had to check the right box!!

One can fill out this form: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/nr73/ But one does not have to!! I called revenue Canada and the person I chatted with said that! I never filled it out--why do more paperwork!!

On the Canadian governemt site http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/online/mysca.shtml you can register there to keep where ur living up to date etc, but its different than what ur asking though.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

What about the GST/HST credit coming my way? I was under the impression I needed to let them know so that I don't have to worry about sending them back that money.

Yes, I forgot about that--one does have to let those folks know and even when u do, they may stil send you the cheque, which you then have to send back!

here is the info--scroll down for # http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/347079-canada-gst-cheque/
