Update: SSA clerk never entered any information for our I-94 so DHS never responded and they denied the application (without notifying us) so we'll have to start all over again EAD I guess

I went in on Monday regarding my missing SSN. They said that they mailed it to me. I never received it.

They told me that they would resend it. AND that I should go into the post office and let them know of my new address, here in the states. She said that if you don't tell them your address and they have something important ( like a ssn) they wont deliver the mail, they will just return it to sender.

Here's a helpful tip:

Go back the next day, and ask for the number.

One of 2 things will happen:

1. Clerk will give you a printout of the number or

2. You will learn of other/further problems.

It's really best to go back the next day. Sure, it might be an inconvenience to you or your fiance/spouse, but it's worth a 2nd trip. No, don't use a telephone, just go.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Well we tried to apply yesterday (2 days before I-94 expiration) just in case but no luck. Clerk didn't think k-1s could get SSN until I showed him the literature I found on the guides here showing his right to get one. Clerk actually asked me if he could make a copy of it because he couldn't find it in the office's files and they wanted to have a copy. Hah!

A K-1 needs at least 14 days of validity left on their I-94, so you are not eligible to obtain one until you receive your EAD now.
