Even among our 'export' pool of journalists, I don't think we have anyone that I would call rabid.

oh he's rabid alright. any foreigner that dares come over to the land of the free and voice their non citizen opinion on gun control is foaming at mouth coveting our right to bear arms.

What he said should happen to her actually DID happen to people - that's that point. That's why it's offensive trying to shoehorn the subject into a conversation about the economy. There is simply nothing at all in common between the two issues, slavery was only brought up for shock value.

I don't see anything in Bashir's style there that went beyond what commentators on other networks get away with on a daily basis. Making logical and reasonable arguments simply isn't a requirement to be a commentator on network news - it's the tabloid nature of these shows.

I might as well ask why Palin even gets airtime when the level of her contribution is to display gross ignorance of her own country's history.

You won't get any argument from me in regards to Palin's IQ, and how she manages to keep getting airtime is beyond me. But imo Bashir's comments were way over the top. Palin's ignorance and stupidity does not give him or anyone th right to say what he did. In this day and age of pc run amok, I'm surprised that more isn't being made of this. What Bashir said is far worse than anything I can recall ever hearing in a public venue.

Is it though? I really don't think so. He didn't say "eat $h!t and d!e, Sarah". He said that maybe if you had a dose of what slavery was actually like you wouldn't make ignorant statements.

Personally, I think that's perfectly justifiable. It's highly offensive to me that someone could be that ignorant of a period of their own historical heritage that they'd trot it out to make some puerile statement about contemporary politics.

I used to listen to Talk Radio and watch the O'Reilly Factor (entertainment value) and a lot of the content on those shows was on a par. It seems par for the course to personally insult people and say things that are pretty scandalous (likely because it's so difficult to win a libel case in court).

For sake of argument:

Do you think it's worse than when Rush Limbaugh said that Michael J Fox was "acting" and "exaggerating" his Parkinsons Disease symptoms in a political TV advert promoting stem cell research?

What about when he referred to a women's rights lawyer as a 'sl*t' and a 'prost!tute' in response to a speech she made to House Democrats about the need for a mandate for health insurance companies to cover contraceptive costs?

Yes, I think it's much worse.

I think its the same.

I think it's worse actually. At least Bashir qualified the point he was trying to make.

Why?

As I've said, I think one person publicly advocating that another person be defecated or pissed on is as low as it gets. You obviously have a different opinion. No biggie.
