Dammit! I would have preferred he remain front and center. Where does one go from MSNBC to continue the War on Women?

That would be Piers Morgan. You think he's 'rabid'!? I can hardly think of a less accurate description. He's a pompous twit certainly but 'rabid'? That's like trying to compare Kenneth Williams to Genghis Khan. Ridiculous.

If you seriously think Piers Morgan is the pinnacle of high passion in news/talk media you may want to get your blood pressure checked.

Bashir suggested in a Nov. 15 broadcast that someone should defecate in Palin's mouth. He made the lewd comment in a segment about Palin's comparison of the federal debt to slavery. Bashir cited a former plantation owner who punished slaves by forcing one to "S-H-I-T" in another's mouth, as he put it.

"If anyone truly qualified for a dose of [that] discipline," he said, "she would be the outstanding candidate."

I never even heard of this idiot until now. Got what he deserved I'd say.

Maybe it's worth watching the video or reading the full transcript of what was actually said before rushing to judgement. As usual the reporting is more sensationalist than what actually happened.

Was the quote I posted not the correct text of what he said?

It was not a transcript, no.

I just watched the video and I conclude that Bashir is a complete idiot. He should have been fired.

I'll be the first to say that Sarah Palin is dumber than a bag of rocks, but for anyone to advocate that someone defecate in her mouth or piss in her face, has no place in the public eye.

I guess the question is what is more offensive:

1) A political figure who seriously tries to compare the national debt with slavery (at best spurious, at extremely historically ignorant and deeply offensive);

or

2) A news pundit who calls them out on it by saying that someone thinks these two issues on a par wouldn't make that comparison if they had first-hand experience of being a slave.

That's the essence of the argument.

Even among our 'export' pool of journalists, I don't think we have anyone that I would call rabid.

We certainly don't have anyone who is on a par with some of the American commentators. In the US it seems that there's an audience for pundits who use inflammatory language and angry rhetoric. Why else to people listen to Rush Limbaugh or Michael Savage? Who else do people watch Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly?

That may be the essence of your argument, I see it a bit differently.

1. A political figure who is not very bright and has a record of saying stupid things. I really didn't think there was any underlying motives to Palin's comparison, just a silly one, typical of her.

2. A news pundit who numerous times refers to Palin as an idiot and rather than making a logical and reasonable argument to her comments, he decides to take one of the most disgusting things that a person could do to another, whether it be from slavery or any other walk of life, and publicly advocate that this be done to Palin. Who's the real idiot?
