Hi all,

My wife is having her immigration interview on Dec. 11 at 10:30AM at the Montreal Consulate location.

Do you guys have any specific tips or any links on how she can prepare for the interview? A list of all possible documents to bring, and sample questions would be very helpful.

I read in the past that it's better to go early in the morning before the door opens in order to be the first ones in line. So, should she go to the consulate early to get it over with, or should she go like 30 minutes before 10:30AM?

Your advises are appreciated.

My appointment was at 10, but I was there at the door at 7 45 so was let in at 8 when the door opened. I was done with everything by 9 40 and out.

Notes from the interview:

1. Arrive at the door, don't carry phones/electronics, of that sort. they won't let it in.

2. Do not carry big bags, or tonnes of paper, they won't allow big bags in there. A regular folder should be fine.

3. Door opens - You go through scan scecurity, same as at airports, you remove belts, shoes, watches, scan ur docs and u pass through the scanner.

4. If there are keys, they will keep it and give u a tag (willl return at leaving)

5. once security is clear, you go through the door to the basement. right there, (the security area is very small, hardly can fit 10 people).

6. You are told to wait at the basement, the basement is empty just with chairs, Try to sit next to the elevator (there is one at the very end of the room).

7. There is a photo booth to take passsport pictures for 10 dollars (just in case u forget) but please ensure u already take them with you.

8. once there are like 10-15 people in the basement , an officer will come and take u all into the elevator.

9. the elevator stops at the 19th floor - this is where the consulate it.

10. You go there, and first get a number (i think it is at cashier window A 3/4) - you are called by your number

11. Once you have a number you sit andd wait for your number to be called.

12. once your number is called you go to the window where you are called, where they review your appointment letter, passport, picctures, take original i864 and other documentations

13. Once all your documentation is reviewed, they tell you to wait.

14. then after a while your number is againg called where you go to another set of windows (Number 6-9)

15. you go to the windor and take an oath under us law that you will speakt the truth bla bla bla.

16. depending on the interview result you will be told to leave

17. You go back to the same elevator and go down to basement (the elevator only stops at 19th floor and basement -so u go down to basement)

18. once in the basement, you walk up the same stairs u went down to basement

19. You again see the guards, pick your stuff if you handed them over

20. Say them good bye and leave

Additional notes

Just 30 second walk from the main gate (right opposite to the main gate) beside there - there is parking, park ur car there, just in case they don't let u take anythign in u go back and put in ur car

because the guard if they object on anything, he will tell, this is not allowed, do not leave near the building or around.

I was not allowed to take my school bag, so i went back to parking andd put it in my car,

Final note - there is a detailed post by Saylin on the Montreal Embasssy- so read that and foll,ow my notes.

Good Luck!

At the top right you will see REVIEWS:Embassy.....click on that, and then select CANADA and go from there--or do a search top right for Montreal interviews and you should find plenty! Most people go early, so they get in and get out ASAP!! Remember NO electronics of ANY kind, and no super big bags!! Many use 1 of those Plastic accordion file folders to store everything--with passport and interview letter at the front for easy access! And it is handy to keep everything sorted out for other immigration filings down the road....As well keep track of ALL trips out of the USA for periods longer than 24 hours as you will need to list those for the I-751 and if you go the USA citizenship route!!

And biggest thing to know--the elevator opens from the REAR at the designated floor!! Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
