Is Albanian even that bad these days? God, its not like they're sentencing them to death. And its not like they can't all go together.

I was there in 2011. We stayed at a bed and breakfast in northern Albania on the coast. Beautiful place (but poor). Wonderful people. I felt safe there, no problems.

That's why I don't feel that bad. She likely could have figured out a way to become a resident here with some more effort. Now she can't so she goes home. Her children will be very eligible to go to college here if they want. If not, you're Albanian, what's the big whoop? Its not like they're not letting her take her children. Its sad but I don't think she gets to stay here because its sad. If her country of origin was say Syria, I'd say let her stay as going back could mean an untimely death.

I sincerely doubt ICE has the means nor the inclination to give her a German war submarine.

I had a friend from Albania and she said when she was little they had to sing songs at school like "We love our leader" and stuff like that. Very cute.

no, but what is the point in tearing this family apart? to prove a point, to make an example. to this woman's kids - it could quite possibly feel like death, like losing their mother.

i have two little girls on my mind right now, who are growing up without their dad, because he was deported back to cambodia. he was brought to california by his family as a child. his entire family is in california still. he would be such a loving, hands on father if he was here. instead they have skype. this is why i get so angry, seeing first hand how irreparable damage is done to people in order to maintain beauracracy and a false sense of protection.

According to SOME folks, we do that here. Again, no change.

I do it every morning upon rising! All Hail the chosen one!

Yeah I get that but I don't see this as making a point. Its just how the law is now. Now I know they said "they never do this to other people" but I don't buy that. The family doesn't have to be torn apart in this case, they can all go to Albania. I guess I just don't see it as the end of the world. Maybe once they're there, they can start working towards a legitimate immigration to the US. (But I think we all know that's not going to happen) There's tons of countries in Europe they could apply for immigration that are better in many ways than the US. Why not try something like that? Disagreeing with the law is fine, disagreeing with the law to the point of not following it leads to anarchy. I'm not in.

When they were under communist rule? I know Albanian was repressed for a long time and all religion was outlawed. The towns and villages are years behind time, the cities are modern, though. However in some places that rule of revenge still exists, so it is possible for some people to have a death threat over them, or their family, and the threat never goes away until someone is killed. In that case I guess it would be asylum. Thankfully they don't do that in Kosovo. Much. I don't think....

when the law is wrong, it's wrong. when it's inhumane, when it serves no purpose outside of propagating the self imposed system it serves yet takes a human/societal toll - the law needs to go.

in my opinion - the only people that need to be deported, physically removed, are the people who harm others. this is a planet, we were all born here, we should all have the option of living wherever we choose. with the progress of social media making the virtual world so small, the confines of borders (and the pettiness of marrying for visas), we need to broaden our horizons a bit.

Forever, well, from WW2 until 1991.

You are right that someone might have had a good reason for asylum from Albania, but this woman made a story about how she might get kidnapped into a secret prostitute ring because she was pretty. If she was faking a story she should have made a better one.

That's all fine and good. But that's not the way it is now so they don't get to just do what they want. I guess I'm just not quite the Anarchist you are devil.gif
