Can you please tell me what makes you say that? Where does it says you need to be a resident? According with this topic from June/July 2013 (less that a year) it says that an applicant for AOS is eligible and you have to show them a copy of the I-797C receipt of the pending I-485 as proof of this. The guy asking the question even says at the end that he was able to get a drivers permit and ID card after going back and showing these documents.

But if this has changed and you can provide me with a link of a current law or something that's says it's not possible anymore I will really appreciate it.

The information in the forum link you posted is correct. Just bring all the documents that meet the four sets of requirements in VA's DMV. I got my driver's license in Virginia two days ago. You can ask me if you have any questions about the tests or administrative items. =)

I am not sure about VA. Its worth a try. With the I-797 receipt we got a Social security card. I do not have a link or current law in your state. States are different. Call them and they will tell you I would think. I was told you have to be a resident of the state to get a drivers license. Without a residency (green card) how can you be a resident. We are trying to get Obamacare and the Irs has accepted the residency by giving a soc sec card and of course work permit. I think some states would offer a drivers license but not sure. Have not tried so good luck to you.

Update SSN applied for should be here in next 30 days.

DMV tried to do the drivers license they said they had everything they needed? Put it all into the computer fine, eye test, signed, photo taken....then the DMV computer crashed?

They gave them a receipt saying they had priority next time they go in to DMV?

So now we are not sure if the DMV computer crashed as they had no SSN or it just crashed!

They seemed to think they could get their license without SSN?

Anybody know?

Preparing the paperwork for our interview on Monday and I was wondering, the letter says "original and copies of supporting documents submitted".

What exactly does that mean? Is it things like a copy of the K1 Visa, K1 NOA2? Should I take copies of those again?

It also mentions I-94, is that relevant anymore at this stage? I'll probably print it out again anyway - just curious how high in my pile of paperwork it should be.

Interview couldn't have gone better. Approved on the spot and got I-551 stamp.

We took the oath, sat down, showed our IDs and then I had to confirm my name, DOB, place of birth, etc. She then checked the copies of documents I had submitted against the originals (passport, K1 visa, etc).
She then asked how we met and I gave a fairly brief account.
And then we were asked if we had brought any supporting documents showing our life together. I gave her copies of bank statements, lease and car insurance. She quickly glanced over them and then just put them away in my file. I asked if she wanted to see some photos from the wedding too, she didn't seem too bothered but accepted anyway.

She then asked for my passport again and said "Your application is approved, I'll stamp this with an I-551 until your card arrives." and off we went. We must have only been in there about 15 minutes.

And then 20 minutes later I got a text saying my case status had updated - card is in production. So I'm pretty darn happy now. happy.png

My AOS case is still on Acceptance although I've done my biometrics and received the EAD/AP combo card. Is this normal or should I make a call to USCIS?
