Hi

Parents got their combo cards today EAD & AP, went to get there driving licenses at DMV for VA they where refused?

Told that their cards do not entitle them to a VA license?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

They need to take their I-797C for their I-485 applications as per that thread someone linked and then they should be good.

I set up email alert. And I check online status almost every day.. I will call them first thing tomorrow morning. I almost feel like giving up. Missing family back home and hubby needs to work a lot to keep us both going is driving me insane... plus winter here is killing every little motivation I have left...

Bike or bus. You have to be a resident to get state drivers license. Sorry

Can you please tell me what makes you say that? Where does it says you need to be a resident? According with this topic from June/July 2013 (less that a year) it says that an applicant for AOS is eligible and you have to show them a copy of the I-797C receipt of the pending I-485 as proof of this. The guy asking the question even says at the end that he was able to get a drivers permit and ID card after going back and showing these documents.

But if this has changed and you can provide me with a link of a current law or something that's says it's not possible anymore I will really appreciate it.

They have all their paperwork & will try again today.

However I now think that the problem will be they have no SSN?

Do they need SSN to get a driving license?

They are applying for that today.

In NYC I needed my ssn for the drivers license.

Parents are going today to get their SSN do you know how long it takes to arrive or do they give you anything saying what the SSN will be today? Or is that wishful thinking & we just have to wait until it appears in the mail?

They say you get it in the mail within 2-4 weeks but I had mine in less than a week. From what others said, that's the norm. So they should get it rather quick.

The Website changed from Card/ Document Production to decision....does anyone know what this means? I wonder if the card has been ordered as per the previous update that stated "card production"...

Decision

On March 6, 2014, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed

We had our interview yesterday! We were scheduled in at 9.20am at Detroit embassy. and we were VERY NERVOUS

We got there at 9am, met the receptionist at the door who immediately picked up that I was British (cue attempts at British accent and slang from said receptionist). I politely laughed and applauded him on his British accent before we went through to the main waiting area.

My husband and I start going through the HUGE binder that I had put together the night before, just to familiarize ourselves. I had collated loads and loads of pictures, loads of joint documentations, a copy of our AoS package, as well as details of our bills and leases etc. basically everything it told us to on the letter.

We were called in by a middle aged lady and taken to an office where we had to swear an oath before sitting down. She asked me for our passports and we sat down on chairs opposite her. She then asked me what MY parents' names were (was expecting her to ask me what my husbands parents names were) and then asked me for my husbands name. I hesitated a bit as the question seemed too simple!

She then told me she was going to go through a list of generic questions, while she ticked off my answers on a piece of paper;

"Are you a Nazi?"

'Are you a spy?"

"Are you a polygamist?"

"Do you or have you ever had any children held hostage or kidnapped"

etc. (I was used to these questions from the K1 application, my husband was a bit shocked lol)

Then she asked us about our wedding, just conversational very friendly and laughing We told her about the problems we had at my London interview which I told her was totally my fault for bringing the wrong bloody birth certificate! She said it sounded like a nightmare and she was sorry we had to go through all of that!

Then she asked me what my husband enjoys doing, I said umm he likes sports, playing xbox and eating out. She then asked Steve the same question, he said I enjoy reading and going to restaurants. Honestly I felt like our answers sounded kinda generic and lame.

She said" okay well your gold card will be in the mail within the next 10 days!"

I was kind of clutching my red binder that I had spent ohhh about 2 months compiling. She saw me look at it and said

"Oh did you want to show me anything else?" I said "Well I bought some joint docs in case you wanted to see them?". She said "....okay sure".

She didn't even glance at them, literally no interest in them at all.

Really that was that. We were out. We were in the interview for around 10 minutes....

Kind of an anti-climax!
