So based on a walk-in infopass appointment today, I was informed by a USCIS official that due to a massive influx of applications at the NBC the processing time for I-485 is actually 8 months and they just haven't updated the website yet (the website gives the processing time as within three months). I find this odd since I see people on here seem to be getting processed within the 3-4 month timeframe. Has anyone heard anything about this?? I ask because this USCIS employee gave me some other information that I know is not accurate so I'm just hoping that he is misinformed about the 8-month thing also.

well it also depends on the officer assigned to your case I guess....I can't speak for others but my case is in NBC and it seems it is processing better than I had expected...i hope it wont go to the 8 month thing.

To those who have interview dates already (congrats again!), did you hear anything from USCIS prior to finding out you had an interview scheduled? I'm just wondering if anyone noticed their 'last updated' date change or knew their case was going to their local office.

It's just passed two weeks since I did my biometrics and I'm already getting impatient waiting for any kind of change. tongue.png

Laura, my biometrics were done a day after you and my online status shows that my file hasn't been touched since the 9th of December 2013. I brought this up with a USCIS employee during my infopass appointment and he said my file had actually been "touched" on 7 January but that the online system takes days or "even weeks" to show any activity done on your file.

I will have to agree on that when I was on my F-1 OPT/EAD extension the status just went from "Acceptance" to "Post-Decision Activity"...the whole process took me around 3.5 months i guess and no notice in between....they just don't update that frequently but again it might vary from every other person.

Question: I signed up for online updates and never got an update. Is this normal?

It varies from case to case...it's normal for them sometimes not to send any updates at all even after the case is approved or at times even after a year after it was approved/changed...again your mileage may vary smile.png

Is there any advantage to doing a walk-in for biometrics i.e. does it speed up receiving EAD and/or AP? Its really AP that I need. Filed AOS with EAD and AP in mid-Dec, actual biometrics appointment is 02/03.

Anybody know for sure?

Thanks stanos86. I guess, I will just have to wait for hard copies in the mail then (which I am totally fine) :)

Hi Kiwi- long time, no "see". Hope all is well with your family adjusting. :)

I think it did matter for most people who went early..I saw their EAD/AP approvals come in fast and wish I had done the same...but in some cases, it was only a week or so. So if it's super far away and an inconvenience ( and in rare cases, can be turned away), I'd say no...if it's not, then go for it. Did that make sense? :D

Hey, thanks for replying J&A, and Laura, time flies doesn't it?

Its AP I want the most, am hoping to take my kids back to the UK for Spring break in March. I could try a walk-in (its a 30 min drive so not bad) but I have to take my kids out of school and risk rejection and then have to take them out again for the time we have the actual appointments for and I don't know if its worth it or if it will really speed anything up.

Aside from that we're doing well! Hope y'all ;) are too!
