VJ Friends,

Foremost I hope everyone is well on their way to a successful completion of your 'journey'.

Rio de Janeiro CR-1 Interview date is January 6, 2014 (finally). BUT with New Year's Day a few days before I am concerned that my wife's medical results will not be ready and at the consultate in time for the interview.

IF she finishes the required blood test, x-rays and physical but the results are not in the consulate the day of the interview, what happens? The doctor says he will 'mail' the results to the consulate (the doctor is directly across the street from the consulate). Timing...

We can arrive in Rio on Jan 1 (Wednesday), take the exams Thursday and the interview is the following Monday. Enough time?

Sugesstions or am I over-thinking this?

God's speed to everyone. Our best wishes!

Dave and Chrys

My wife had her medical in Belo Horizonte since her family lives over there but it still took her going to the Doctor's office 3 days. Not sure why the doctor in Rio mails the results but she was able to get a sealed envelope to bring. The shots was what made her delayed because she didn't have her records & also the clinic wasn't open all day and had a lot of people on the line.

You are probably cutting it close but just beware things move at a snails pace in Brazil. Good luck.

Hi there,

My fiance had his physical with Dr. Duarte (your doctor) in October. Both the x-ray and the blood test are done at labs near Dr. Duarte's office in downtown Rio on the same day as the examination, and those results are sent directly to Dr. Duarte's office. The entire medical examination package is sent over to the consulate via SEDEX, for which you will pay directly at the doctor's office. That said, you're timing may be tight to actually have all of the results at the consulate by January 6. Our appointment was on a Friday, and the blood test results were not available on-line until the following Thursday, six days later. I don't know if Dr. Duarte had access to them earlier, but this gives you some idea of the timing. Also, be sure that your wife brings her vaccination booklet to the examination if she has it available. This will potentially save time and expense, because the doctor will be able to confirm immediately whether any additional vaccinations are necessary.

Apparently in Rio it's not the end of the world if the medical examination is not complete at the time of the interview. Another member had her interview in Rio last week, but her medical examination was not yet complete due to some additional testing that the doctor ordered. Everything else was in order at her interview, and the consulate told her that her visa was approved, subject to the arrival and confirmation of the medical examination. Once the consulate gets the medical examination they will send her the visa.

I hope this helps, and good luck!

Jaymaxx... yep. Fortunately she has her vaccines and records. The Doc is across the street yet they will Sedex the report. A snail outpaces the Brazilian bureaucracy hands-down. The stories I could share... Thank you for your insight and thoughts my friend.

Fulano... it is encouraging to know that the interview can move forward then the medical report arrive after. It's been a year in the making and I don't want to muck it up at the final hour. Fortunately, my wife has her vaccine records. Appointment is confirmed for Jan 2. We'll follow his guidelines and hopefully get this behind us without fail or delay. My friend, thank also for your kind words and insight.

Best wishes and best of luck

Dave

The medical report was not required to be at the Consulate the day of the interview BUT it is required to arrive before the Visa will be issued. Whew!
