this might sound like a stupid question but what are acco fasteners?? and when i punsh two-holes on the top of a form, would that be in the top center of the form? in addition, is it ok if i staple some of the forms? for example when i submit form I-864 is it ok to staple the papers of the tax trascript or not?

thank you

Not a stupid question because i'm not sure myself what acco is!

As for the forms i wouldn't put holes or staples in any of them, i used regular paper clips. I remember reading somewhere awhile back not to staple anywhere. It won't cause any problem for your case but will just be a pain in the butt for whoever opens it and you don't want to get on their bad side :)

hanster,

I stapled multi-page forms and documents together, such as the I-864 form or a tax transcript. Do not staple different documents together, do not staple a tax transcript to the I-864.

Acco fasteners are two-prong binding fasteners, Acco being a prominent manufacturer of such fasteners.

I believe the assembly instructions here on VJ came from the USCIS wet site:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;page=assembly

It says do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled. I would assume that staples would hamper the disassembly process and shouldn't be used. I used ACCO fasteners and had tab dividers between each section and it all seem to go well.

Good luck

Whichever way you assemble and attach things, they will rearrange them to their own satisfaction.

For the record, I used clips and sticky notes to identify things.

I stapled the documents that went together with one staple at the top. Probably shouldn't have done that, though

That's right, they take it apart and reassemble as they want it. Staples are fine, they can easily be removed. I didn't like ACCO as an option, so I just used paperclips to put various items together and stuck it all in a folder.

For the I-129F we used a big binder clip, ACCO has them, 'cus they're bigger and won't mess the papers as much as a paper clip, and it kept the entire package together. Now I dunno what I'll use, if the same or the two hole punch with the fastener, I think I'll just send in with the binder clip again. I also stapled multi page forms.

TracyLuis,

It's OK to staple multiple-page documents together, these will not have to be taken apart. It's not OK to staple multiple documents together.

jane2005,

Staples are not easily removable, and the papers are often damaged in the process.

Binder clips are preferable to the more common bent-wire paperclips because stray papers cannot inadvertantly get caught in or slip out of them during handling, and binder clips are just as easy to remove as paperclips.

You need to tell that to USCIS then because they sent back one of my applications along with the supporting evidence. There were several STAPLES (not used by me) holding various sections together. I removed the staples (without damage caused) and resent the application.

jane2005,

I had the same experience. And the papers were shuffled better than a deck of cards in Las Vegas!

I was also able to remove the staples without damaging the papers. But then I had only 1 submission that I had to work with, not the hundreds that a USCIS clerk has to deal with every day. This gave me the luxury of taking sufficient time and care to be sure that I didn't cause any damage in the process of removing the staples. If I was the USCIS clerk, however, I think that I might come to curse the inventor of the staple after a few days or weeks on the job.

noviademexicano,

Why the "oh ohh"? What you did was excellent.
