So I go into the cbp office, at JFK, ask them to change my name to the right spelling and then let the ssn office know?

For anyone following this thread:

So I called the CBP office and they said there was no error whatsoever, and they have no idea which spelling mistake the SSN office is referring to! They checked all my records.

I call the SSN office here to confirm which spelling error and where exactly it is, and the guy on the phone tells me 'the error is resolved, you've been issued a number and you'll get a card in two weeks'

I'm so confused how this happened in the space of less than 24 hours, as when I went into the office yesterday afternoon, they told me I was on DHS verification.

Not sure if I should still keep digging around or go back to the SSN office one more time to double check...

I will keep this thread updated on if/when I receive my SSN card.

Thanks.

ok - so go back again to the SSA office, they'll give you the number on a printout.

as to 'why the typo' - I must assume the SSA clerk needs thicker glasses.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Social Security cards are paper, not plastic. Probably the real one if it's in color and doesn't look like a crooked xerox copy.
