Sorry for this post in advance!

My POE is on Monday 9th Dec with a K1 visa (plus the heavy packet)

Im in the process of reading every thread posted since I have been logged out (which is just over a month!)

If anyone can let me know in the meantime if anything has changed with POE? or anything else I should be aware of before moving and getting married? Just want to make sure I havent missed any new procedures/processes.

Really appreciate this.

Does this effect my surname change?

Thanks!

https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94 is where you retrieve your I-94 now. You print it out and use for SSN, AOS, etc.

Get SSN before marriage in maiden name.

all very easy and went smoothly, see my POE review for JFK.

Luckily I was the only one in the waiting area, so only had to wait around 15-20mins total.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

Thanks Darnell!

So i don't need an authorized doc saying I need the SSN for other reasons? all the online stuf fon the official website says i do...

On the http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf SSN form, Q5 - Do i click 'legal alien not allowed to work' or 'other'?

I can just go in with my passport, birth certificate and printed 1-94 and that should be good?

My POE was 9th dec...I'm hoping it should be ok to go in and apply now....

Thanks for your help with this!

all done, applied today with my passport, I194 and SSN application (can fill it out online or at the counter there)

They said it will take up to four weeks, which is fine considering the holiday season.

Also, the lady told me that at POE, the CO spelt my name incorrectly on his computer (added an extra letter after my first name) and shes hopes this wont delay anything but that they may ask me for my docs again!! Really hope it doesn't go on too long, they have everything they need from me at this point!

Thanks again for your help!

Darnell's "SSN How to" thread is great information.

I recently saw this link about SSNs on another thread, and would like to share it with others:

ya, don't forget, go back next business day, and either

--get the number or

--learn of new problems.

I hope you weren't 'put out' for DHS verification - that takes some time and usually comes back after the I-94 expires.

Seriously, go back the next business day, in person.

So i went in just now and they said I am on dhs verification...:-(

Not even sure what this means but she said my app goes to homeland security because of the spelling error. She said it wouldn't take longer than four weeks...

Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

you can circumvent that by going into CBP office on Tuesday.

Reread post #1 of the link I supplied.

There's stuff you need to do.

DHS Verification is the kiss o death.
