Is NBI Clearance needed after interview?

My wife just had her interview in Manila and was approved!!!

From her account, things went pretty smoothly and they were friendly and hardly asked her any questions and did not ask to see any additional evidence or documents. However, when they returned birth cert, marriage cert and nbi clearance, they returned the photocopies instead of the originals. They were color photocopies so they might have been thinking they were the originals (even though I wrote "PHOTOCOPY" on them).

We have several extra BC and MC so I'm not concerned about that, but will not having the NBI Clearance original cause us any problems later on? She does have the original bottom half ('personal copy').

Also, she will be picking up the passport/visa. Is there anything she can do to reduce the wait time?

I'm so happy we'll be together soon. Thanks to everyone here for the invaluable information along the way!

The embassy keeps the originals including the NBI. She won't be needing it anymore so having the personal copy is okay.

Congrats on the approval. dancin5hr.gif

Congrats to your approval! I honestly don't have answer to your question but I do have a question for you. I am just waiting for the completion of our CR 1 case from NVC. Question is, Did your wife bring NBI clearance at the interview? Or did she receive a packet that has all the documents she sent to NVC? Thank you in advance...

After completion, NVC will email you the interview appointment letter which lists all the materials needed at the embassy. For each item, they will list whether or not they forwarded it to the embassy, or if you have to bring it. Anything you sent that is needed at the embassy should be automatically forwarded to the embassy by NVC - they don't send anything back to you.

They ask for a new NBI Clearance if the one that was submitted is more than a year old. As recommend on this site, we prepared copies of everything we submitted to USCIS and NVC and she took those to the interview, in addition to some more recent relationship evidence and her personal copy of the NBI clearance. They did not ask for or look at any of it during the interview, but better safe than sorry.

Thank you so much for the info! That helps a lot! If I may ask, how long did you wait for the completion after NVC received the IV packet and how long did it take to get the appointment letter with the interview date? Thanks again :)

You can check my timeline. It doesn't list when I sent the IV packet though, I did that on 10/10 and we received the appointment letter on 11/12. For us, completion was pretty much the same as the date we got the appointment letter, I don't know if there is any difference (maybe just a day or two if any)

Congratulations smile.png Regarding how to shorten wait time, the only way to do that is to pick up the passport (w/ visa) once it's available. This cuts the wait time by 1-2 days maybe. Other than that, all you can really do is wait for the visa packet to be prepared.

Embassy requires originals of those, which is why you got the copies back. NBI isn't needed for anything after the interview.

Have you completed CFO? They will ask for copies of the MC, BC.

Nothing you can do to speed up the embassy during the processing to get the passport back with visa.

I read that it's best to wait until the visa is in hand before doing CFO, otherwise she has to make 2 visits (the second one to show the visa). So we haven't done it yet, but we'll prepare the form and documents.

Was she supposed to be given anything at the end of the interview? They only gave her the civil document copies and appointment letter back, but they verbally said the visa was approved. She received no letter saying it was approved or receipt to pick up the pp&visa or anything.

WoW! They said APPROVED?!! My wife never heard them say that... LOL!!

Big clue if approved is they keep the passport ;)

Ya it is simply to do CFO once you have the visa, but many try to get it done before hand. My wife waited until she had her visa also... one trip no waiting...

just monitor your case number through the CEAC website. Once it says ISSUED, give it a few days (for me it took 3) and then 2go will send you a text message if your passport is ready for pick up or if it will be delivered (depending on which method you picked). You can go to the 2go website and put your case number to monitor your package.
