Is it true that it takes 8 weeks for them to assign a case number? Called them yesterday and that was I've been told

Once they receive it, it usually takes them 20 business days.

I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.

Yesterday we found out that our case reached the NVC. smile.png No case # yet though.

Does anyone know how NVC is working next week with Christmas and all? We want to call them again to see if the number's there yet. Thanks!

They should just be closed for Christmas, December 25th. They should be open the rest of the days. But, keep in mind, I'm sure there's a bunch of workers who have taken time off on the other days for a holiday break, so a back log might occur, thus time frames go up.

Is it true that it takes 8 weeks for them to assign a case number? Called them yesterday and that was I've been told

It COULD take 8 weeks, but is typically a lot faster. Any of the time frames they give you is just to cover their behinds in case it does take that long. In most cases though, things go a lot faster than their given time frames.

Don't know if this is embassy specific or not.

My husband had his interview (I would say about 14 hours ago now) and was told that he was approved. I just checked on the CEAc website and it says AP. I called ustraveldocs and the operator said to give it time; it's too soon to tell. What I got from that was that it is approved, but they need time to process the visa? Can anyone second this?

This is all the information I have for now as the embassy is closed and my husband is in a coma-like sleep.

Kindly need assistance please!

NVC send another checklist today, this time for my husband's IV package. In the checklist was only one thing, a police certificate from Thailand. According to the DOS site, it says police certificates are only required if the applicant has lived in a country not of their citizenship for 12 months or more. My husband lived in Thailand for 11 months, therefore he should not need to provide a Thai police certificate.
We have already provided his PCC for India, and a PCC from the UK since he did live there for 12 months.

I called the NVC and the rep kept telling me 6 months or more. I told her the website says 12 months or more. She said well it's 6 months. ????

Police Certificates

Who needs to submit a police certificate?

Each visa applicant aged 16 years or older must submit police certificates.

What should I send?

You must submit police certificates which:

  • Cover the entire period of the applicant’s residence in that area
  • Have been issued by the appropriate police authority
  • Include all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each recorded case.

How do I obtain a police certificate?

  1. Determine the countries from which a police certificate is required. Refer to the table below.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States need NOT obtain any U.S. police certificates
  2. Contact the appropriate police authorities. Additional information on how to obtain a police certificate can be found on the Reciprocity by Country page.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - ABOUT POLICE CERTIFICATES: Some countries require a specific Police Certificate Request form to properly request and obtain Police Certificate(s).The Reciprocity by Country page indicates those countries.

Police certificates from certain countries are unavailable.

More specific information is available from NVC, the nearest United States immigrant visa processing post, or online at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_3272.html.

An applicant must obtain a police certificate from the local police authority:

IF you…

AND…

have been living in your country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months

you are 16 years old or older

lived in a different part of your country of nationality for more than 6 months

you were 16 years or older at that time

lived in a different country for more than 12 months

you were 16 years or older at that time

were arrested for any reason

you were any age at the time of the arrest

I am the petitioner.

now, a new problem.....Manila had a earthquake(smaller, just 2) but this country is falling apart and the DOS has done nothing to really expedite petitions. The DOS has done nothing to respond to the wife's, children and fiancés of American citizens trying to get their partners out of that country. Why????

Hello -

My wife's petition was approved on 12/12. How long will it take for USCIS to ship the case to NVC? Will I get notification of when it is shipped?
