Proposing to Girlfriend as She Enters US at Airport Good or Bad?

Hello, I am thinking of ways to officially propose to my Girlfriend after filing K-1 visa application. I already proposed over Skype but want to do it in person the right way and put the ring on her finger.

I was thinking of proposing with a huge sign at the airport when she arrives in a few weeks. As she comes out of security and getting her luggage I would be kneeling on one knee with a sing that says Will You Marry Me holding open the ring box.

Is this not a good idea to propose when she walks out and into my arms at the Airport?

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Joel

Really depends on her personality, which only you know and none of us do ;)

Personally, I would not really like such a proposal. 1) I wouldn't want such a special moment to happen in the midst of a crowd of people in an airport, and 2) After travelling such a long way I would quite likely be tired and have a headache and so on!

But I'm sure there are people who would like such a proposal.

As far as legal/immigration/security whatnot stuff goes, there is no problem with it :)

Also make sure she doesn't read visajourney! ;)

I agree, to me this would be a terrible idea. It is a long trip. She'll need a shower, people will be taking pictures, she'll be tired, she might be sick.

Such a personal moment in front of strangers? That is not, to me, a romantic proposal.

But it depends on her personality. She may really love it

good luck

You know your girlfriend better than us. You know if she loves surprises or if she likes a more intimate approach (like waiting till it's just you two)

I would have some flowers ready for her in the trunk of the car (15 red roses are a nice touch and if you know anybody from the FSU you will understand why it has to be 15 and not a dozen like here in the US). Pick up her bags and go to the car and then as you open the trunk pull out the flowers, put in her luggage and then get on one knee and give her the ring. That would be the soonest I would do it as I would not want all those people around, but I am bit of a quiet person and so is my wife. Plus you can see what kind of mood she is in after that long trip and dealing with immigration. That is why I traveled approximately 8,000 miles over Christmas just so I could meet her family and propose to her. I did it on New's Years Eve in her apartment.

Good luck to you,

Dave

After a long flight, potentially grumpy border guards and in front of loads of strangers who just want you out of the way I can't say it sounds that romantic! But if she's the type that likes big public gestures in front of an audience then go for it. I guess an advantage would be some people will record it on cameraphone for you no doubt. I did seriously contemplate proposing at London Heathrow but decided against it for the above reasons and ended up proposing at a ruined castle at 10am the next day in front of nobody. Good luck with whatever you choose smile.png

it would be nice to have a big bouquet of flowers for your fiancee when you meet her. proposing wont be such a good idea. she is in k1 visa.. you 2 should be engaged by now. and she knows you will be getting married in 90 days. i would hold off to the proposal until she is well rested.

My fiance was going to officially propose this way after proposing via e-mail sometime earlier. He got cold feet when the arrival hall was so busy but did it after he put my luggage in the car and proposed in the airport parking lot! I had expected him to officially propose on that trip (it was the first time we ha met in person for 20 years) - just not so early in the trip. We filed the K1 paperwork 3 months later.

I assume you have filed the K1 paperwork but this trip will not be the one on which you will marry? When I eventually arrived to get married (this was during the dark days of CSC last year where it took 9 months to get the NOA2), he was waiting at the airport with around 8 helium balloons saying 'I love you', 'Welcome home' and such. I think he had got over his embarrassment by then.

If you think your fiancée will love it then go for it :)

My husband proposed to me on a quiet beach by Lake Tahoe when we were completely alone. It was so unexpected and romantic I cried in his arms for a little while before he said "I take it that means yes?" :D

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

I am in the camp that says it may be a little *too* public, just because other people may take photos/videos and upload them who knows where. But if this isn't something that would bother her, then go for it.
