By the way an immigrant with the flue is much more of a health risk than an HIV infected person. I don;t see US POE officials checking for the flu at entry.

The flu is more dangerous than HIV? Hokay then

If you are more likely to sit next to that person at a movie than you are to have unprotected sex with them 400 times, then they are more of a risk to you if their disease is flu. :)

People can recover from the flu. Don't be silly, now

Ever heard of a flu epidemic? Lots of people don't recover. Who is being silly now?

People can beat the flu. Once you have HIV you have it forever. Bedrest and chicken soup aint makin it better.

I realize you're trying to defend a point, but comparing the flu as being more dangerous than HIV is simply laughable imo.

Except the thousands of children born with HIV, when treated since birth with ARVs, no longer test positive ast age 5, 6, 7 and no up to age 16 (the first child they started this protocol with)

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

You folks think of HIV in terms of HIV in the US or Western Europe. Head on out into the real hotbed of HIV where sometimes upwards of 20% of the population is HIV positive. Look at how the opportunities of getting infected increase as the portion of the population that is HIV positives increases. It's utterly ridiculous. If we can help it, I don't see why we would import this virus that we positively cannot battle.

You seriously believe this is why there is an increase in these areas? Because the more who have it, the more there is? This isn't Gremlins.

Ever heard of not having access to ARVs?

No it isn't the Gremlins. And yet, the more HIV infected people you have, the higher the risk of infection. You know that one doesn't have to slip into another's sheets to contract HIV, yes? You realize that HIV is often contracted in other ways out there. Then there are those - and I am not making this up - that believe that raping a virgin will heal them of the disease. But you know how to protect yourself. Super. And you'd like to bring them all here, yes?

And what exactly do ARV's have to do with stemming the spread of HIV? If anything, the availability of ARV's would make matters worse from a spreading of the virus point of view.

The comparison to the flu and HIV is just pure nonsense.
It is indeed.
She stated that the flu is more of a health risk than HIV. When determing risk, you must look at both frequency and severity. You are comparing strictly from a severity standpoint rather tham looking at the whole picture.

Apples and Oranges. Simple as that. Or did you get your HIV shot yet?

HIV shot! EXCELLENT ;)

I cannot believe this has turned into 'well the flu is easier caught so there' discussion. HIV/AIDS is deadly. HIV/AIDS is expensive to treat. HIV/AIDS is not just transmitted thru unprotected sex and shooting up with a dirty needle. Come on now.

There are people on both sides of aisle. Some who say HIV infected folks should be allowed and those who say they should not be. Neither side could be convinced. Thats why they had the vote and the representatives of people voted for it. So that settled the argument as far as the law is concerned.

The forum discussion is still going on.

Now so for those who are compassionate enough to allow HIV folks to enter US. What is your position as far as them being your neighbor or do you want some sort of list like that of convicted sex offenders. What is your position on HIV teenager immigrant (with family who came in through a waiver) going to school with your children.

I am compassionate about maintaining the health of those who are already here. We have enough people in this country already who need help. What about them? We don't have unlimited resources and sadly cannot save the world...so who decides which ones get compassion and which ones don't?

They are my neighbors, friends, teachers, co-workers, students in the schools where kids I love go to school.

The sex offender list is another disgusting manifestation of hate and ignorance, so no, I wouldn't want any such thing.

You obviously choose for yourself. I, for one, think there's plenty of resources to go around, they just aren't going around. So my compassion spreads globally, I'm not a nationalist. I don't think any one person on this planet is more important than another, and I think if the US is going to take on the role of global patriarch, we must take the good with the bad.

They do have a potential HIV vaccine, it's currently in the clinical trials stage.
