Unless you are on the side of immigrant euthanazia, if you want to attempt to solve the problem of undocumented migrants, you have to consult those migrants on some level. I am sure the president did more than just speak to these guys and even if he didn't, it's his choice as to what is important and it's not like he didn't promise to address this issue is it?

You may think he would have been better doing any number of things on Thursday and that's fine but his choice wasn't undemocratic or off agenda. It's odd that you would think it was. To solve the Irish problem in Northern Ireland, guess what? Yes, the government had to consult with all sides including the 'terrorists'. You may not find such consultations to your taste but that's what pragmatic solutions involve.

Papa Lazarou already went through a legal immigration process, got his/her stuff, and is currently living outside of the USA, with no interest in maintaining any usa residency.

I find it 'fun' that he thinks to return to VJ and stir the pot this holiday season, as he's no interest in anything related to USA immigration.

There are few in the upper echelons of either political party who would suffer ICE to show up at such a meeting. Upholding and enforcing the laws of this country seldom jibe with political expediency in this country.

aha ! Political expediency ! Uhm, that's usually 'engaged' when there's a group of folk that clamour for attention and seek a political solution. Now then - what's the demographic of the folk seeking the political solution? IME, the largest group seeking that political solution, these so-called 'activists', are the parents of the daughters that married illegal aliens inside of the USA.

F 'em, I say, as in their roles as parents, they allowed their daughters to make the wrong decision in marrying an illegal alien.

Fast forward to today, and these 'mixed families' try to find some legitimacy to their existence inside the USA, attempting to use the emotional rents of 'seperating families' when, in fact, it all boils down to bad choices allowed by these parents of daughters.

Geez... It's really stupid that the dems thought to pick this up as a leading issue, 8 years ago, trying to make a polarizing issue out of the whole thing.

If you remember, it was 6 years ago that the last comprehensive immigration reform bill was attempted ... by BushBaby and the Republicans. It was wrong then, and was soundly defeated, owing to overwhelming public opposition forcing the hand of Congress.

This country needs to enforce the laws currently on the books, before we even consider "comprehensive immigration reform."

Hyperbole certainly but then again there have been those who are quite happy to shoot anyone who attempts to cross the border without documents. That is not a policy, that's state sanctioned murder. Realistically there are lots of good laws on file but people still immigrate without the proper documents. Pragmatism tells me that the perspective of those people should be taken into account if you want to move forward.

I say round up the unemployed uscitizens, ages 26 to 35, and put them in groups of 50 to 100, deputize them as ICE inspectors, and drop them off at each company known to employ illegal aliens. Do that for about 5 weeks, and the paradigm shifts again. Once the illegals are rounded up, these fellas can then take their jobs.

Now that's pragmatism, based on the unavailability of common jobs in the USA to USCitizens.

What's the right way? I don't believe undocumented immigrants have little labels we can look at to ensure we target the right people so what's your cost effective solution to the overwhelming number of undocumented migrants who stay well on the right side of the law once they have entered the US? Bear in mind also that these people have the same rights as anyone on US soil, that's how the US does things. They don't remove your rights just because you have no legal documents. The process of law has to be followed. Currently ICE deports those that it can, who come to their attention because they commit a felony. That's a very slow and expensive train.

If a law was passed where an undocumented person NEVER can gain citizenship....... Like a LPR the lefts tune would change overnight........
