Several months ago, my husband was diagnosed by his personal physician with chronic asthmatic bronchitis. He is receiving treatment and taking medications and his symptoms have improved significantly. He also quit smoking which I believe was a major part of his problems. He has taken the skin test for TB and has had chest x-rays and everything has come back normal.

Will a chronic illness such as his cause a problem at his medical? Should my husband take all documentation from his personal doctor showing his treatment, medications, x-rays, etc.?

Thanks.

I am the petitioner.

I would think he will be ok, but have him take just in case. Has he had the xray done in the past? My fiance xray came back cloudy and had to have a spectum test done and could not be interviewed until consulate received the results, my fiance also smokes.

Thank you Mel!

Yes, he has had an x-ray fairly recently, about 4-5 weeks ago. His physician said it appeared normal. I would imagine if he suspected anything serious he would have advised my hubby to take the sputum culture. I was just in India about 3 weeks ago and his cough was pretty bad. I am noticing a huge improvement when I talk to him on the phone now. I haven't heard him coughing in about a week. He is on several different medications, as well as an inhaler. Other than his cough, he is healthy.

I will tell him to bring all of his medical records to the panel physician.

I am the petitioner.

I think that making sure he has insurance in the USA would be very good idea too. :)

Good advice! I just added him to my insurance as a matter of fact during open enrollment.

If you don't want to pay for your spouse to be on your insurance now you can add him once he immigrates. Immigration is considered a life changing event and you will be allowed to add him at that time (at least in Ohio it is). I researched it and spoke to my company HR and they confirmed that yes immigration is a life changer that will allow you to add him immediately and he will be covered immediately. They told me I just have to add him within 30 days of entering the country.

My husband's work did not allow me to be added until the next open season (this Nov) but it's better for singhsingh's husband to have insurance BEFORE he arrives to show his medical worries are already taken care of.
