Hello everyone! My fiancé had his interview this past Tuesday in Sydney and was approved! We received an email today and the packet should arrive to his addresss anytime. I have a couple questions on what to do next.

When he arrives.... What should be first on our agenda?

We plan to get married right away (courthouse and start planning for a ceremony next year)... Do we need a social security number first? Or can we get married first then apply for a social security number? The algorithm for the k1 visa is a little unlcear.

How much time should we leave for the port of entry? In others words, he will have land in either LA or San Fran.... He will have a connection to come home to Washington DC. How much time should he allow for the customs in Cali?

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! My fiancé had his interview this past Tuesday in Sydney and was approved! We received an email today and the packet should arrive to his addresss anytime. I have a couple questions on what to do next.

When he arrives.... What should be first on our agenda? Get married.

We plan to get married right away (courthouse and start planning for a ceremony next year)... Do we need a social security number first? Or can we get married first then apply for a social security number? The algorithm for the k1 visa is a little unclear. Check your local state/county marriage laws/requirements. Obtain I-94 data. Wait 2 weeks after POE to apply for SSN.

How much time should we leave for the port of entry? In others words, he will have land in either LA or San Fran.... He will have a connection to come home to Washington DC. How much time should he allow for the customs in Cali? Hard to say, depends on current workload at POE, to be on the safe side, at least 3-4 hours (or maybe more).

Thanks in advance!

Good luck on your immigration journey.
