Government child support question

Maybe a silly question: Does the government in the US pay child support? In Germany we get 154.00 Euro per month...

Child support here in the US is something paid by one of the parents. In most states here in the US, payments in the form of cash and food stamps are made to the very poor called "welfare".

Parents are responsible for paying child support. However, there are tax credits that involve children such as the Child Care Tax Credit, the EIC, and other tax incentives when one has children.

From what I understand, governments that generally subsidize children had to do so to counteract negative birth rates. The United States has never had that problem.
