People chase after the poor as if they are the reason for high taxes. You do realise that if you were to make these changes you wouldn't even notice the savings in your tax bill and yet you are quire prepared to change the system from one that is simple to administer and universal for one that would be more complicated and expensive to administer and that seeks to punish specific types of behaviour that you have determined as untenable?

Nonsense. when we are required to pay for the medical care of the poor by increasing the rates of the non-poor it is VERY noticeable. Check the Obamacare rates! That is merely some people being required to write a monthly check for their care and someone else's. The "difference" between their current rates and coverages is their contribution. It is noticeable.

If there were no decrease in tax burden following the removal of something that makes uop a HUGE portion of the federal budget it is only because greedy politicians would waste it on something else. Entitlements make up something over 40% of the fed budget and you think it would not be noticed?

I have no problem with helping people in need, especially children. I DO have a probem with chronic welfare and no way to eliminate the NEED for welfare.

Many people make an economic decision to use welfare because it is the BEST they can get for their education and skills. Our state has a system that provides the equivilent of a job paying $20 per hour to a family of 4. In California the equivilent is $29 per hour. How would most of these people hope to get a job paying that much?

If, instead, we gave those benefits AND required the recipients to attend school and/or work for 40 hours per week (and allow them to keep their earnings) for a period of 5 years, we could largely eliminate the need for welfare for most (not all) people. The current system causes a growth of poverty. We need to change that. we also need to eliminate the moronic practice of allowing 16 year olds to dropout of school. You go to school until age 18 or a high school diploma. Period. Eliminate the "GED". It is no longer marketable for anyone.

YES it will cost a lot of money. Anyone expecting the problem to go away for free is an imbecile.

Educated people with job experience make up an incredibly small portion of people on welfare. Why can't we take a clue?
