When I go back to Vietnam I hear most people say that there is no 'Hope'. They talk of despair. My wife alone has 13 brothers and sisters. Most have large families. I can't understand this. I feel that if there is no hope than why bring more into this misery.

I find is amusing that people who can't figure out how to take care of themselves can't figure out how not to torture a child with less than adequate living circumstances. And that those same people choose to put child after child though the same sub standard living situation. It is no wonder the lower income class grows at roughly the same rate as breeding rats. .

Incidentally, we also know that there are not enough jobs currently in the US to employ everyone who should be in employment, so I am not quite sure how you square that particular circle.

Then the last thing we need is amnesty, sorry, "comprehensive immigration reform", which adds anywhere between 12 and 20 million to the pool of people who "should be in employment". :(

We know, too, that most of the people that receive food stamps (or their parents) actually do work. They just happen to work for employers that do not believe that an honest days work should be rewarded with pay that allows one to feed, house and clothe oneself and perhaps see a doctor every now and then.

Because a civilised society always carries with it hope for the future.

Many societies did not. You can directly track the decline of the US as a top country to the excess of welfare and illegal immigration. If California cut off welfare and deported the illegals they would be in much better shape.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Immigration policy is very much a political animal. Politics and civilised behaviour are often incompatible. It's no coincidence that, in 2008, Barack Obama's election campaign co-opted the word "Hope", tarnishing it in the eyes of many of the electorate. :(

Raise the minimum wage to $12 an hour and see what happens. I doubt it will have the effect you think it will.

Why deport them when you can gas and burn them. Far more efficient!

Who's paying for the matches and the Cyanide gas?
