Hi Everyone, thanks for the help and advice... Question. ? isn't it required that an immigrant speak a certain amount of English to come here on a fiancé visa ? She says she will wait to come here to learn it as being submersed in it with no one speaking Russian / Ukrainian then she would have to learn it. Also I cant see typing all our conversations into a computer for translation if she did end up coming here. .

When I asked her about learning English she said she did some several years ago. but never needed it. and now she said it costs about 100.- 125.- a month for lessons and cant afford that. This I have read before as a standard price there.. She said she would wait until she came here to start learning. but that makes communication more difficult.

I have tried to learn basic Russian but it is difficult. I have read that Russian is one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn.

I offered to spend time with her on Skype to teach each other but she said about waiting. She has been on a couple sites for 7 or more years so I'm guessing she has been disappointed more than once. And cant see learning English unless things are for real and permanent.

There is no language requirement.

Since you have no timeline I'll assume that you haven't even filed the 129f petition?

Even though we conversed on almost a daily basis (my wife knew English fairly well so we had no issues there) and even though we talked about everything especially life and living in the US together it wasn't until we got our NOA2 approval that things really really ratcheted up in our relationship.

Her reluctance to take any classes now may be due to similar thinking, nothing really really going to happen at this time (if you're not there yet, but again with no timieline and poor memory on my part, I don't know.

No requirement, but the question of "how do you two communicate?" has come up more than once at an embassy interview. Might cause a little problem....

My wife has only been here for three months, but the changes I've noticed:

So- no real changes yet but she's picked up some American addictions. I'm curious to see how this all develops... okay maybe changes isn't the right term in the spirit of the thread, but these are 'Aha' things for me.

Oh, I just remembered. One epiphany she had is that she really doesn't like Russians in America (at least here in Portland) and would prefer to meet Americans to interact with. We went to Mount Hood's Timberline Lodge for brunch and there was a Russian couple nearby- she walked up and said hello in Russian, and asked where they were from (Obviously meaning in Russia). They responded with a snooty look and replied "Portland". She responded, without missing a beat "Of course I should have known from your thick Portland accent." before walking off. But she's really noticed that Russians here at least tend to be very aloof and even cold to other Russians.

Okay maybe I veered too far from the thread context, but I was trying not to.

We have made some great Russian friends and become part of a Russian speaking group. This group is a lot of fun, and boy do they know how to party! The best New Years parties, and they find some reason to get together every few months, usually at someones house, or at a park. Lots of food and drinks. Also great contacts such as auto mechanics, A/C guy, etc.

Of course just like anywhere else we have met a few people we don't care for, but they never get invited back to the parties.

2 cents from Victor from Russia. By some reason, some immigrants absolutely sure that being from the same origin country with somebody will make you if not friends then at least acquaintances right away. Some people really attached to talk to somebody from their country in person, visiting national events/meetings, etc. But not everybody like this. For other people it doesn't matter if you're from the same country or not, they don't know you, you're a stranger, so when somebody approaching them out of nothing and asking questions these people feel uncomfortable. Reaction of this couple may be wasn't very nice, but not every US couple would act welcoming if some random guy/girl would approach them in the restaurant and ask: "Hi, where're you from?" It doesn't really matter if he came from Texas like (let's say as an example) you, right? It's just kinda... intrusive? Add to that the fact that in Russia "small talk" is a nonsence, people do not approach strangers just to talk about random things like here. So your wife shouldn't expect that every Russian speaking person in the US will be happy to make a connection with her just because she came from Russia too. Some of them will, but others will like it no mora than you'd like the same approach from a stranger. In city we live it's not a big community of Russians, but we have quite a few, sometimes in department stores you can hear somebody speaking Russian and I've heard about some "Russian evenings" in our area, but honestly I've never wanted yet to attend any of them and never approached somebody in public place just because I hear them speaking Russian. Some Russians here will be glad to talk to somebody in situation you've described, but definitely don't expect it from every immigrant, many of them will not.

Hello Everyone, I am amazed you guys are all still here 7 years later:)))

Glad to see you are still happily married!

Things my husband always points out, why he loves me:

-I have no problem admiting if I am wrong and apologizing for it.

-I never give him shitt for working late hours or weekends(Why would I?He is trying to provide for his family).

-I never talk shitt behind his back (Why would I?I chose him!)

-I thank him for his hard work all the time, I really do appreciate it a lot.

-He says I am a great mother, because I refuse to hire a nany and do it all by myself.(btw we had a baby just 5 months ago)

-I cook, but so does he(I am a lucky girl)

Things he complains about:

-I time him in a bathroom lol He takes forever hahaha

-I watch his health and dont let him eat fat italian food

-I ask too many questions at the same time

- I always know when he lies

That being said, in last years we had ups and downs, but i feel very much home now.

I notice more and more, what is wrong with Russians.

For example:Its common to ask personal questions like:"How much does your husband makes?"
