I've heard Americans speaking Spanish - from my point of view it's Okay (if the grammar is correct too) they sound fine any ways....

I've heard British speaking Spanish - lots of british on the South of Spain during the summer have their villas.....and......OMG.......i was hardly understanding them.....it was british accent mixed with some spanish words and looooooooong word pronouncing with specific intonation.....

Conclusion: Amercianos pronuncian mucho mejor/ Americans pronounce much better...SI, SI, SI

Highlander, as far as your question about the Russian reputation for having a temper my experience is that it isn't much different from Americans. Russians tend to be more direct and to speak their mind but I don't see them as flying off the handle. My wife gets upset sometimes. She just tells me what she is upset about and unlike some American women once she has spoken her mind she seems to forget about it and not drag the same thing up over and over for the next 20 years.

As far as the new bills, my experience is that it is correct. When you go you need absolutely pristine bills. Bills that have any kind of mark on them, even the pen that we check to see if a bill is real here or if there are folds in the bill, especially if the folds leave a faint white mark then the bill either won't be accepted or will be taken at less than face value.

As far as credit cards, it is getting better. Still many places won't take them or will take AE only but credit cards are gaining acceptance. You can generally use a debit card to get cash but you do need to let your bank know that you will be traveling there or the fraud dept may deny the withdrawal. I never used debit cards much myself but do know many that did. Actually I haven't used my debit card in 10 years even here but that is just my choice. I always took cash and put it in several different places including a "sock safe" to make sure if it was stolen that they didn't get it all, but in 25 trips never had anything stolen.

When it comes to Travelers checks, I would avoid them. My experience isn't recent but the one trip I took them the only way to cash them was to go to the Amex office. I would suggest not taking travelers checks. That time I did I ended up bringing them back with me because they were so hard to use. That was back a ways and it could be better now.

I used my debit card in ATMs and never had a problem. A lot of the ATMs in Ukraine (not in the Airport, but in the city) do not even charge any fee at all. In any case my bank refunds ATM fees.

I never tried using a credit card in a store or exchanging paper bills, I just found using the ATM more convenient. If you are going to use an ATM, make sure it's at a branch of a bank and not just some weird place in a store somewhere, as there have been cases of fraud where the ATMs are hacked or not real or something and will just store your card info to use later.

Another option to get money is to wire it to yourself via Western Union and then go pick it up when there. There are Western Union locations all over the place. This will cost you more though as they will charge a fee to wire, and also exchange the money at a bad rate.

I can speak up for Ukraine. Soooooooo:

1. Credit cards are accepted in most of the places (restaurants, stores etc.) BUT in big cities. In small cities you most of the time are not able to pay with ur credit card.

2. Banks: if you have your credit card issued in the USA, it will be accepted in any ATM machine that is INSIDE the bank and OUTSIDE on the street. BUT I do not recommend frequently use ATMs outside the banks for your own safety, especially in big cities like Kiev. MAKE SURE you call your bank before going to Ukraine and tell them that from........xxxx day till xxx day you will be located in Ukraine, and ask them not to block transactions made in Ukraine. (We had this problem several times, card was blocked in Kiev onces cos he forgot to tell the bank, and second time in was blocked in another city, cos bank thought we will remain and use card only in Kiev.) But as far as you take care of this before u go to UA, all will be fine.

3. Foreign exchange is located everywhere, especiallly in the cities, near the banks, market places, malls etc....no problem at all to exchange USD to UAH but MAKE SURE YOU or person with you have a passport, because exchange officer ask for a passport to make an exchange. (Same will happen if you exchange currency in the bank).

4. Travel checks.......can be cashed at the bank, but personally me do not recommend...pain in the ###....

Conclusion: I recommend when going to UA, have some cash in USD and of course have a credit card, cos you never know when you will need cash and when you can pay with your card. Any way it all depends in which city/town/village you will stay, cos the smaller is the place less or ZERO ATMs are around. Big cities do not have problems with this at all.

As for frustrations from day life towards family members: it all depends, if the girl is unstable psychopath and eats the brain of the guy and her own....trust me you will see frustration 24-7! If the girl is easy in adopting herself to life, open, focused on positive things and simply IS NORMAL you will have ZERO problems, and it´s not an issue about UA or RUS girls-woman its about ANY female from ANY country hahahaha cos you know....any ways we are different than a man, we feel different, think different, accept reality different

I was there twice during the "Orange Revolution" That one was pretty peaceful and an interesting time to be there. This one seems to not be quite as calm.

During the Orange Revolution that was about people feeling the election had been unfair and wanting Yushchenk to be president instead of Yanukovich. There was Orange everywhere. Orange flags, orange coats, orange hats, orange scarfs. The internet cafe I used dailiy was on the second floor of a building. On the first floor was an area that was used to feed the members of the Orange Revolution and to let them get out of the cold. I noticed whenever I entered they gave me a bit of a hard time. I asked the girl I had been seeing if the one side was represented by Orange, did the other side have colors. She said yes, blue and white. I looked down at what I was wearing, a blue and white coat and blue jeans and a blue scarf. Then I figured out why everyone looked at me funny and gave me a bit of a hard time when I went in that building.

Highlander, I am assuming you have not traveled to Ukraine yet. Don't worry about anything but do read up on it and ask questions as you have been. Ukraine is a great country to visit. The people are friendly and helpful, it is safe unless you go looking for trouble. There are lots of really interesting things to see there. Getting buy without a lot of knowledge of the language is not really very bad or much of a problem.

It sounds like you have a good prospect. My suggestion is to not wait too long to visit her. Spring is a nice time. The weather isn't bad and the airfare is reasonable. I notice we are both from PA. What part of PA are you from? How did you meet the woman you are interested in?

As a person who is now in Kiev and sees what is happening i may recommend use http://espreso.tv/ to check what is going on outside (all the info on the page is in ukrainian, but you go to the right side of the web and click on espreso tv. LIVE and you can see the real situation in the street).

As an Ukrainian, I kindly ask guys not mass RUBs wifes, lifes etc with politics, cos most of you unfortunately are not able to see full situation and read or hear real news in Ukrainian language to be able to analyze the actions of the government and politicians over here.

As an Ukrainian I may only say: I am glad that my nation is not an easy bunch of people who may be controlled as the oligarchs (not to call them with another word) want us to behave and live. I thank God that we have courage and will to say NO to our "leaders" that can not be done (again unfortunately!) in the countries that are around us...

Short conclusion to those who may start telling protests in Ukraine are base on language, nationalizm or other things: IT IS NOT TRUE, people protest because government keeps on thinking it can make fools from people, because on 16 of January goverment adopted laws without ANY LEGAL procedure and discussions, violating CONSTITUTIONAL NORMS that we have.

Small comment too: First constitution document that later was accepted as a base by many countries in the world was made by Pylyp Orlyk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pylyp_Orlyk !!!

For the Credit cards, Ask your bank to send you a 'chip' card. It will not cost you anything, and it will work with the machines that are in common usage in Ukraine and Russia. (It made my second trip a LOT easier.) The bills should be both pristine and NEW. When I go to the bank in the US to get the bills I need, I spend time rejecting them at the tellers window. I accept maybe 1/3 of the bills. The tellers will generally help you select bills. I still get about 20% of the bills I take with me rejected by the Ukrainian tellers. I can't figure out why for most of them, and am able to use them at a different bank. Also, in Ukraine, make sure you get the receipt that allows you to change your money back to US if needed. If you don't you will end up bringing Ukrainian currency back to the US.

Ukraine is great to visit. Have a nice time.

No I have not been there yet... I met her about a month ago on Ukraine date and we are e-mailing off site and have chatted on Skype her English is minimal. so we translate and chat, while we can see each other. and so far she has not stopped writing like all the others after 4-5 letters and me explaining about former marriages and living in farm / cow country.

She is very attractive and seems practical and down to earth.

I just purchased Prompt translation software as it advertised as an add on for Skype. but after purchase I could not get it to work. So I called Russia, the origin. and they said it only works on Skype 5.2 and I have 6.11 and deleted and downloaded 5.2 but it still came in as 6.11. I also tried google translate for Skype and can not get it to work. so we just chat with copy - paste but the purchase version of promt is much better than the free online version. I understand everything but the words she misspells. So she writes to me in Russian I translate and reply with Russian. I live in Potter county Pa. Gods country and hunters heaven. about 5 miles south of new york state.

As far as I am aware in Ukraine, no receipt (if you mean to exchange UAH back to USD in the exchange office) is needed.....first time hear about receipts to be able to exchange the currency back..... If you can explain me, i kindly ask you to do so....maybe i am not aware of something???

Another thing that MAY happen that exchange officier may NOT have USD cash avaliable for exchange.....especially recently.....in this case you need to walk into different banks of exchange desks and ask if they have USD currency....but again, should not be a problem.

I have been researching and learning about Ukraine and Russia and prefer Ukraine for its culture and traditions. Nothing against Russia it is also a great country. It is obvious what is really happening there with the prez's son a dentist as one of the richest men there.
