My wife Lena and I will be celebrating our 8th Thanksgiving together, but I saw recently a number of RUB fiancee's were scheduled to arrive just before this time. Tell us your story or plans for this very American holiday.

I'll start with my fiancee, Lena arriving on November 17, 2005. In Northern California the autumn arrives late so there were still plenty of fall colors to enjoy. My daughter came home from college for the holiday and we planned the traditional turkey dinner. The problem is I am not much of a cook and Lena had never cooked a turkey. So, I opted for one of those partially cooked dinners with instructions that even I could follow.

Poor Lena was not prepared for the large portions of food and much was left over, but the dinner went great. She spent a great deal of time getting to know my daughter and I prepared the dinner and watched football when I could. It was a wonderful time and began the period of our life together with hope and promise.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

John

Nice of you to mention this John. I'm sure at least a few persons will enjoy the "light" moment to take their minds off the visa stress. My stress hasn't started but I appreciate this anyway.

Just like you took the time to write this, I'm taking the time to wish you and your family Happy Thanksgiving. My husband will be celebrating Thanksgiving without me, but by the grace of God, hopefully that will change for next year. smile.png

Hey John

Alla's first Thanksgiving was 2 months after she arrived in 2008. We traveled to my bother's house near Chicago and she met the whole fan damily...which is quite ponderous. she likes the food and was surprised at the amounts. Pasha got introduced to playing "American Football" at least the "touch" football which always breaks out before the dinner. He also met my Sister's HOT daughter and they had a "thing" for a while. Well, y'know, it was a "13 year old thing" rolleyes.gif

I still cook the Thanksgiving dinner. I am "the American" . Alla contributes a Ukrainian dish, this year "Kotletih" the "Ukrainian meatballs" I like so much. Last year we had all four boys, their wives/girlfriends and grandchildren at our house. It was a crazy house but great fun! She is NOT into black Froday shopping and we celebrate "New Year's" in the Ukrainian tradtition so we buy our gifts after "Catholic Chrstmas". She is a bargain hunter.

She loves turkey and I just bought two more turkeys today for 49 cents per pound and out them in the freezer for later.

This year we will have Christmas and New Years in Ukraine! YAY!

Gary,

Good to here someone is enjoying this American holiday. This is an important holiday for Lena and I since she arrived about a week and a half before her first one. This year we celebrated with her son who is living in Long Beach and attending school there. Unfortunately my daughters either had to work or live too far away.

I envy you going to Ukraine for New Years and Christmas. We are hoping to travel to Ukraine next year. I need to get a new passport first as mine has expired.

Happy Holidays to you and everyone here on VJ.

I am looking forward to it!

We had a big Thanksgiving last year with all 4 boys, the grandkids and two daughter-in-laws and one girlfriend. It was wild and great! This year it was quiet for Thanksgiving but we will celebrate for New Year's! Alla watched the gradnkids after dinner and we went out...the boys and their wives and girlfriends and I. We did the Thanksgiving night shopping craziness...Alla was in her glory with the "babies" (5 and 3 years old) When we came home at midenight the babies were still playing with Bahbuska Alla and their mother asked "Why are you still awake" Alla had taught them...

Бабушка сказала да!

"grandma said yes" rofl.gif

We will be in Kharkov with friends and I cannot wait to go to the new (remodeled) history museum. We meet our friends on skyoe and she says "We will go here or go there" and I say "I want the history museum!" "Yes, Gary, we know,,,the history museum"rolleyes.gif
