Like it or not (and who cares if you like it or not?) Gun control has been made into a "third rail" issue. This is why you will not see any new Federal Gun laws and why few states will pass them. This issue has been fixed, settled and put away. The few laws passed by states will be oveturned either by legislation from newly elected representatives or by litigation. SCOTUS decisions work for me.

Colorado has had only two recalls in its history, both over guns and both were recalled. This is also why Governor Brown backed off further gun bans in California. The BS statistics count ONLY the killing of assailants as successful self defense. It has been so thoroughly debunked only spittle lickers still give it any credence...elected representatives give it NONE.

The issue is settled law and I have no need to argue with idiots. If you don't like it...tough shitski. Call 911 to have a stranger bring a gun when you get assaulted.

How can you be so confident about an issue that is so fluid? And what if any purpose does it serve to be so pompous when the tide temporarily (whether real or imagined) turns your way? You are a perfect example of why compromise is pointless. All you do is gloat and made snide comments about anyone that sees things different than you. Usually about issues that can't be proven one way or another. Obama has to depend on Putin's ok for public policy? Why so dramatic? Every issue isn't the end of everything Gary.

Its awesome if you're a party of maintaining the status quo. Not so much if you want to change anything......ever.

I disagree.

Recalls work because the side that lost the previous time gets enough money together to get a campaign together, publicise it and keep people interested long enough to get to another vote. They work by bringing out an altered demographic from a regular election, enough to swing the vote to a different result.

Recalls fail when the incumbent is either doing what the electorate actually want, or if he has enough money to balance, or overpower the recall campaign.

Parties are irrelevant to recall campaigns, as both sides indulge in the practice. Money, however, is very relevant.

Nah, its very difficult to remove an incumbent unless they try to change something that generates enough public fervor.

The discussion locally concerns what she has been given, politics at its nastiest.

She will not be missed that much I do know.

there are statistics on rape victims with a gun stopping the attack vs. them getting raped & having their own gun used on them?

please post a link.

No but if you got off your lazy high horse you would find that possession of a gun increases not decreases the likelihood of causing you or a loved one harm, rather than the baseless claim that the opposite is true. The exact statistics are not readily available but the overall pattern is.

Have a gun if you want just don't try and spread the fallacy that it is making you safer.

The fact of her statement, however upsetting to the witness aside, stands. The idiocy of believing having a gun 'might have' assisted this victim flies in the face of statistical fact. But don't let it shake your hubris. It might have, sure, or the rapist might have found and taken it, perhaps ending the horrific rape with a convenient murder weapon supplied by the victim. That is the statistically more likely 'what if.'

if you'd read the article you'd have noted the victim vehemently disagreed with the politician too - and by extension - with you.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

No, that is your job. The relative fact stands, having a gun makes you feel safer, but it actually increases your chance of harming you or someone you love.

do you have anymore stats that don't exist you want to quote?smile.png

Not going to research it for you, it's settled statistical fact.

As I have said repeatedly, own your gun or guns, but realize that you tip the balance slightly out of your favor in the safety department. If that suits you have at it.
