My daughter had her 1st filling at age 5, and this is a child who has her teeth brushed twice daily. I sat with her through the whole process. What I noticed was that the procedure was not the same as for adults. The filling procedure was like using an air-brush machine and there was no needles used. She was tense, but did not cry. This might cheer you up.

Well i took my little girl to the dentist, they said she needed 3 fillings. She went in there all happy and excited about having a dentist.... when i take her in March, she is going to be excited, only to be hurt.

:crying:

We have found a really good children's dentist in PA and are taking her there in March, they have sedation etc.

I feel so ####### about this, bless her heart she is 5....... I have been crying on and off for a day and last night i could not sleep. I'm a little depressed as it is and this seems to have made it worse.

I just cant imagine her having to go through all that pain :( I know it has to be done through. I brush her teeth real well, maybe its just genetic, i really don't know.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel really down and upset about this and cant stop thinking about it, its driving me nuts.

I took my daughter to a child's dentist with sedation. She hated it, she perferred my regular dentist that I had been seeing since I was 5. The sedation thing isn't that great. The mask the put on them at least at the one I went to looks like a clown nose. Now my daughter doesn't like clowns.

Lizzy, you did great! Getting her to the dentist was the best thing you could do, and they will put right the problem your little one is having. Don't worry too much - I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how dentists are these days with kids. Actually, they are 100 times better with adults that get scared - believe me, I am one of them!

I bet, come March, you will be posting on here and saying that you didn't know what you got yourself so worked up about. She will be fine and requesting fissure sealants is definitely the way to go. If she is prone to cavities, which she may be simply because of the natural crevices in her teeth, it will likely save her having more work on them later.

Good job Mom!

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!
