Birth cert name doesn't match passport

Hi everyone,

Slight panic...I got my packet 3, and as you all know, I read the line stating that passport name and birth cert etc must match - but mine don't! When I was born my mother gave me her maiden name as a christian name - a kind of "extra" middle name I suppose, however, I have never ever used this on another document.

My birth cert reads "Kathryn M*** Barton D****" yet all my other official documents are just "Kathryn M*** D*****"

What should I do???

Put a covering letter in explaining the difference and that you don't use it. I use my middle name and it was in all our correspondence as it's what my husband knew me as and they simply asked me to confirm at the interview.

Hi,

My passport and birth certificate don't match because I've been married before and divorced. I still use my old married name, simply because it was easier than changing my passport, banking etc etc. I obviously have my divorce dissolution documents and my petition has been approved so will this cause a problem when it comes to the next stage and I have to complete my packets from the London Embassy?

Thanks so much Brit Abroad - it seems something so minor but can cause so many issues. I just got a new passport this summer...the thoughts of having to pay for a new one over something like this made me feel sick! Delighted it wasn't an issue for you

nozza79 - surely your divorce dissolution papers would justify it! I presume they have your maiden name on them somewhere?

My passport and birth cert, had a slight difference, there was an extra letter on my name on the passport. They would not issue us a marriage licence because they did not match exactly. You would be better off getting it fixed before you get here.
